About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant in Clinical Gerontology to join our team at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality care to older adults with complex medical needs, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative pathways of care and improve patient outcomes.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in General Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine, with experience in day-to-day organisation of services in a busy Teaching Hospital. They will be able to demonstrate leadership capability within multi-disciplinary teams and have a thorough understanding of principles of medical audit. Experience of clinical research, publication of relevant review articles or case reports, and teaching skills are highly desirable.

The post-holder will be expected to contribute to the General Unselected Medical Take, weekend Frailty and Gerontology support, as well as the out-of-hours Gerontology telephone on-call rota. They will also be involved in outpatient activity, supporting inpatient activity through targeted follow-up and contributing to the admission avoidance rapid access HOT clinics provided by the department's Consultant Connect service.

The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic department with a strong track record in delivering innovative pathways of care, high-quality multi-professional training, and academic research. They will have the opportunity to work with integrated services across the local health and care economy to provide new and innovative ways to help enhance community support for frail local residents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality care to older adults with complex medical needs
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative pathways of care and improve patient outcomes

Person Specification
  • Full MRCP
  • Full Registration with GMC or Name on GMC Specialist Register on date of taking up appointment
  • On the day of interview, applicants must be within 6 months of CCT or must have fully completed CESR application and be fully registered on the GMC Specialist Register
  • Wide experience in all aspects of General Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine, culminating in award of Certificate of Completion of Training by GMC, or award of Certificate of Eligibility for Specialty Registration (CESR) by GMC
  • Experience in day-to-day organisation of General Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine services in a busy Teaching Hospital
  • Familiarity with information technology and general computer skills
  • Familiar with current structure of UK National Health Service and conversant with recent initiatives and changes
  • Able to demonstrate leadership capability within multi-disciplinary teams
  • Thorough understanding of principles of medical audit
  • Must have undertaken and completed audit projects
  • Experience of clinical research
  • Publication of relevant review articles or case reports
  • Experience of undergraduate and post-graduate teaching and exam preparation
  • Effective communicator, able to work in a close-knit team and co-operate with all medical and paramedical staff
  • Flexible, able to cover colleagues' absence
  • Professional attitude towards work, reliability, good record of attendance and tidy personal appearance
  • Other higher degree or diploma (e.g., MD)
  • Management course and/or qualification
  • Relevant research experience in one or more aspects of General Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine
  • Teaching skills course/qualification
Salary and Benefits

The salary for this post is £105,504 to £139,882 per annum, excluding London Zone Allowance. The post is a fixed-term contract for 6 months, with a full-time working pattern.
