About the Role

The Senior Human Factors Engineer will be responsible for delivering expert Human Factors support and managing various operational requirements for our clients primarily within the UK Defence sector.

Key Responsibilities
Your primary duties will include:

  1. Delivering Human Computer Interaction (HCI) development and evaluations, utilizing agile engineering methodologies.
  2. Conducting Human Machine Interface (HMI) assessments, including spatial, workplace, and workspace evaluations, with a strong understanding of anthropometry and ergonomics.
  3. Performing cognitive workload assessments.
  4. Developing and managing the Human Factors Integration Plan (HFIP) and overseeing the technical HF components of the plan.
  5. Assessing human failure and providing submissions to support safety cases.
  6. Offering Human Factors guidance to stakeholders across various disciplines.
  7. Managing the timelines and budgets for HF projects and tasks within larger contracts.

Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience:

  1. A degree in a human factors-related field (such as Product Design, Engineering, or Psychology).
  2. A minimum of 2 years of experience applying human factors principles in a relevant industry.
  3. Experience in providing Human Factors support for Safety Cases, including the development and substantiation of Human-Based Safety Claims.
  4. Familiarity with Human Reliability Assessment methods and techniques within high-risk industries, including task and error analysis, HEART, or other forms of HRA analysis.
  5. Extensive experience in conducting Human Factors projects related to Defence.
  6. Knowledge of relevant UK and international standards and their applications, including Def Stan.
  7. Strong communication, report writing, and presentation skills.
  8. Significant experience working directly with clients and stakeholder representatives.
  9. Proficient in the standard suite of MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  10. Exceptional communication skills and consultation abilities, along with emotional self-awareness and integrity.
  11. A demonstrated commitment to technical excellence and ongoing professional development.

Desirable Attributes
Preferred candidates will have:

  • Membership in the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (CIEHF) or a willingness to pursue chartered status, or equivalent professional memberships in related fields.
