Position Overview

This role presents a remarkable opportunity for a dedicated registered nurse with a strong commitment to education in the acute care setting.

The selected candidate will become part of a well-established leadership team comprising Consultants, Matrons, Senior Sisters, and Sisters, focusing on enhancing the quality of patient care through educational initiatives. Responsibilities include supporting all team members in their ongoing professional development, assisting new employees during their orientation period, and addressing student retention challenges in undergraduate programs.

The successful individual will engage in quality assurance discussions at local, regional, and national levels regarding practice learning and capacity challenges. They will serve as a liaison between Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and clinical environments, influencing the delivery of educational programs that enhance the quality of practice experiences and facilitate student advancement.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Enhance the organization's ability to accommodate non-medical students in accordance with submitted plans.
  • Lead the execution of new standards for nursing education and support learning in practice.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning across all healthcare professions in the acute care environment.
  • Act as the primary contact for guidance on practice experience issues within acute care.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure the effective implementation of the learning and development agreement.
  • Direct the Education Strategy for the organization within the acute care sector.
  • Oversee the design and execution of quality monitoring processes in partnership with educational providers to ensure high-quality learning and training experiences for students.
  • Conduct bi-annual reviews to provide evidence of internal evaluations of education and training quality.
  • Establish a risk assessment and escalation process for students to address any concerns during their time in acute care.
  • Lead local efforts to support the strategic direction of quality assurance methodologies.
  • Oversee the provision of preceptorship for new staff within nursing, midwifery, and allied health professions.
  • Ensure accurate tracking of all students on placement.
  • Guarantee that funding reaches the educational environment.
  • Develop and maintain educational leads within clinical settings.
  • Create effective communication networks for practice learning among service providers, HEIs, and health education organizations.
  • Facilitate collaborative partnerships with HEIs and healthcare organizations to enhance the quality of student learning experiences.
  • Identify and create opportunities for practice learning in a multi-professional context.
  • Collect and analyze feedback from student placements, ensuring appropriate actions are taken.
  • Promote inter-professional and multi-professional learning opportunities in practice.
  • Develop new and existing placements by engaging with key stakeholders in service provision and education.
  • Work with HEIs and service providers to ensure a sufficient number of mentors/practice supervisors for current and future student placements.
  • Ensure mentors/practice supervisors are adequately prepared to support students.
  • Provide ongoing support to mentors/practice supervisors to enhance their motivation and ability to offer quality guidance.
  • Establish and maintain a mentor evaluation process.
  • Manage the mentor register and produce quarterly reports on trends and outcomes of mentor evaluations.
  • Engage with local universities to promote the organization as a potential employer.
  • Provide effective leadership on the acute care floors, supporting ward managers and matrons.
  • Assist in the recruitment and retention of new staff.
  • Oversee clinical educators, setting direction and providing senior leadership.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Recognized healthcare professional qualification.
  • Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
  • First degree in a health-related field.
  • Possession of or progress towards a higher-level degree.
  • Recognized teaching or mentoring qualification.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
