As a key member of the multidisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in providing comprehensive psychiatric care to individuals with learning disabilities. Your expertise will be instrumental in diagnosing, managing, and treating a wide range of mental health conditions within this population.

Responsibilities
  • Provide expert clinical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of psychiatric disorders in individuals with learning disabilities.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Conduct comprehensive clinical audits to ensure high standards of care and continuous improvement.
  • Participate actively in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to service development initiatives.
  • Provide supervision and mentorship to junior staff members, fostering a supportive learning environment.
Qualifications and Experience

Essential Criteria:

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).
  • MBBS (or equivalent) qualification.
  • Up-to-date knowledge in the field of learning disability psychiatry.
  • Experience of multidisciplinary team working.
  • Wide clinical experience in learning disability psychiatry in different clinical settings.
  • Experience of clinical audit.
  • High level of clinical skills. Able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proven competence in diagnosis and management of psychiatric disorders in Learning disability population.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent teaching skills.
  • Recovery-centred values.
  • Able to sustain self and support others.
  • Trustworthiness.
  • Maturity, openness and flexibility.

Desirable Criteria:

  • MRCPsych qualification.
  • CCT/CESR in learning disability psychiatry.
  • Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field.
  • Has undergone training in educational supervision.
  • Has undergone training in appraisal.
  • An area of special interest relevant to the post as demonstrated by publications or presentations to learned societies.
  • Experience in multi-agency work especially with service user, carer and voluntary agencies.
  • Experience in service management or development.
  • Established record of clinical leadership.
  • Established ability as a clinical teacher.
  • Training in specific and relevant treatment skills a brief form of psychological therapy.
