About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Advanced Clinical Practitioner to join our endoscopy team at St George's Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Practice autonomously as an Advanced Clinical Practitioner to provide a nurse-led endoscopic service in OGD and/or Colonoscopy.
  • Work independently to assess, examine, diagnose, and manage patients referred with gastrointestinal disorders and those requiring endoscopic surveillance/screening.
  • Collaborate with the multi-professional team to deliver high-quality, clinically effective care, prioritizing evidence-based and best practices.
  • Work in partnership with clinical, nursing, and administrative teams to achieve exceptional patient-centered care.
  • Deliver an 80% clinical component to the role and 20% related to leadership and management, education, and research.

About St George's Endoscopy

Our endoscopy service has a long history of providing exceptional patient-centered care and is a tertiary referral center for various endoscopic procedures.

We offer:

  • Bowel cancer screening services to the south west of London in conjunction with the NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme.
  • Basic skills and advanced endoscopy training courses in conjunction with JAG and the National Endoscopy Training Programme.

Person Specification

  • Essential Qualifications and Training
    • Registered Nurse
    • JAG accredited Nurse Endoscopist for OGD and/or colonoscopy and polypectomy (Level 2)
    • Independent non-medical prescriber
    • Post Graduate qualification in specialty
  • Desirable Qualifications and Training
    • JAG accredited Train the Trainer
    • MSC level in Advanced Practice or equivalent (minimum PGDip) or Completed portfolio of supervised practice in specialty
  • Essential Experience
    • 7 years post-registration experience, of which at least 5 years includes specialty experience
    • Minimum 2 years' experience as a nurse endoscopist
    • Demonstration of experience in all four pillars of advanced clinical practice: Clinical practice, Leadership and management, Research, Education
  • Desirable Experience
    • Experience as clinical Leader
    • Experience in an autonomous practice role
    • Previous experience in an advanced practice role
    • Experience of service development
  • Essential Skills
    • Advanced clinical assessment and history taking skills
    • Highly developed diagnostic reasoning skills
    • Leadership skills
  • Desirable Skills
    • Able to chair, co-ordinate and facilitate meetings
  • Essential Knowledge
    • In-depth knowledge of GI tract anatomy, physiology and disease processes and management
    • Understanding of national policy and developments within the NHS, JAG and professional bodies that impact patient care and service delivery
    • Understanding of clinical governance and risk assessment
    • Up to date knowledge of evidence-based guidelines and policies
