Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Accountant to join our Finance Department at Northumbria Police. As a Senior Accountant, you will play a key role in providing high-quality financial services to support the Force's strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide financial support to the Finance Lead to ensure the delivery of a responsive, effective, and accurate financial management service.
  • Advise senior managers on financial matters to support decision-making and strategic planning.
  • Maintain professional knowledge and ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and standards.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of VAT returns, balance sheet reconciliations, and other financial reports.
  • Manage the daily operations of the Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Financial System Teams.
  • Supervise processes for providing advances for out-of-pocket expenses, oversee online expense claims, and calculate allowances for overseas operational visits.
  • Control key financial functions, including finance systems, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
  • Produce management reports relating to the organization's debt position and provide KPIs on debt reduction performance.
  • Manage Finance Systems change processes, ensuring upgrades and fixes are thoroughly tested before implementation in the live environment.

Requirements:

  • Experience in management accountancy and financial management.
  • Excellent communication and engagement skills with colleagues and customers at all levels.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and provide support to colleagues as needed.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in financial software and systems.
