Advanced Clinical Practice

As an Advanced Clinical Research Practitioner at The Christie NHS FT, you will play a key role in planning and managing your workload and the workload of the service, ensuring that service provision meets the needs of patients. You will demonstrate critical self-reflection, self-awareness, emotional intelligence, resilience, and openness to change, including obtaining informed consent, history taking, screening, systematic clinical examination, requisition and interpretation of appropriate clinical investigations, and formulation of clinical management plans.

Maintain and Develop Expertise

You will maintain and develop expertise and competence within the field of oncology to enable collaboration with senior colleagues and medical staff, and to facilitate the management of patients. You will prescribe within the capacity of non-medical prescribing, adhering to Trust policy and existing frameworks, including first and subsequent cycles of SACT, unlicensed medication, and drugs used within clinical trials as a qualified Independent Non-Medical Prescriber. You will also prescribe appropriate blood products as per Trust policy.

Patient Involvement

You will communicate with patients, referring specialists, GPs, and other community and hospice-based services at regular intervals as appropriate. You will contribute to clinical and research governance processes, including adverse incident reporting and the investigation and management of complaints as appropriate. You will involve patients and their carers on issues surrounding health promotion, illness prevention, and self-management.

Coordination and Management

You will contribute to the coordination and effective management of the admission and discharge process as appropriate for disease group with reference to Bed Management Policy. You will be an active member of relevant Trust committees and groups, contributing to developing and implementing local and national strategy.

Collaboration and Support

You will collaborate within the Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance and offer clinical support to colleagues within the service, relating to individual patient management, healthcare delivery, and strategic policy initiatives. You will act as an expert resource and provide advice and support to ward/departmental areas and the wider community. You will be a visible role model for advanced clinical practice in research, demonstrating a person-centered approach to service delivery and development within the Trust and externally at a national and international level.

Professional Development

You will critically assess and identify your own learning and development needs in line with service requirements. You will negotiate an annual personal development plan that reflects the breadth of ongoing professional development across the four pillars of advanced clinical practice and undertake professional development accordingly. You will participate in the ongoing advanced clinical practice training and education program both within the organisation and beyond.

Research and Evidence-Based Practice

You will engage in research activity, adhering to good research practice guidance, so that evidence-based strategies are developed and applied to enhance quality, safety, productivity, and value for money. You will contribute to the delivery of the Trust strategic vision for academic nursing and AHP roles. You will disseminate best practice/research findings and quality improvement projects through appropriate media.
