Company Background
Metro is a dynamic media organization delivering news, sports, entertainment, and gaming insights to a rapidly expanding global audience. We are seeking a talented individual to join our London team as the Social Video Strategy Lead.
As a key member of our high-performing social video division, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing our short-form video strategy across various platforms. Collaborating closely with the Head of Social Video and the Deputy Head of Social Video, you will be instrumental in driving the growth of our vertical video initiatives. A thorough understanding of the social video landscape and the agility to pivot strategies in response to evolving trends is essential. You should be adept at reimagining strategies for diverse video formats and platforms as needed, utilizing data and analytics to guide your decisions.
Your responsibilities will include supporting a growing team in the creation and distribution of daily and weekly video content, with a primary focus on platforms such as TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube. A deep familiarity with major social media platforms is crucial. Ideal candidates will possess a strong awareness of current events and entertainment trends, including areas such as Sports, Gaming, Politics, and Culinary Culture.
In this role, you will oversee the daily output across all verticals. By staying attuned to online discussions, you will identify key stories that require coverage and determine the best approach. You will mentor junior team members in crafting compelling narratives and producing engaging, social-first content.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Head and Deputy Head of Social Video to formulate both long-term and short-term strategies for video content across TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube.
- Guide social video journalists in producing captivating, creative, and journalistically sound videos that leverage algorithms for optimal performance.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of legal standards, including the UK Editors' Code of Practice, media law, copyright regulations, and editorial guidelines.
- Enhance workflows and ensure proactive planning for significant events.
- Support the professional development of junior team members through regular training sessions and workshops.
- Engage with Metro stakeholders as necessary.
- Coordinate with editorial teams to ensure video content aligns with the overall business strategy.
- Foster relationships with various departments to ensure the social video team has the necessary resources.
- Build and sustain strong connections within PR and social media platforms.
- Contribute to establishing a distinctive voice across our video content.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in a newsroom or relevant media setting.
- Demonstrated success in developing and implementing data-driven video and social media strategies.
- Extensive experience in creating engaging, social-first video content.
- In-depth knowledge of the operational dynamics of TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube.
- Technical proficiency in multimedia tools, particularly Adobe Creative Suite, with a strong emphasis on Adobe Premiere Pro.
- Experience in filming both in studio and on location, utilizing cameras, lighting, and audio equipment.
- Proven ability to manage a team and delegate tasks effectively, with strong communication skills.
- Experience collaborating with various departments within a busy newsroom environment.
- Commercial experience is advantageous.
The responsibilities outlined above are not exhaustive and may evolve based on the organization's needs. Flexibility and availability for out-of-hours work are essential.
To apply, please submit an updated CV along with a brief introduction about yourself and your suitability for the role, and, if available, a showreel.
Applications submitted without a CV will not be considered.
