Job Opportunity

Metro is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our London team as Assistant Head of Social Video.

This role requires a deep understanding of social video platforms, particularly TikTok, and the ability to work at pace while ensuring legal and ethical compliance.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of social video journalists to produce engaging, creative, and journalistically strong videos that tap into algorithms and deliver strong numbers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead social video journalists across multiple verticals to produce high-quality video content
  • Stay up-to-date with trending stories, conversations, and videos online, and lead daily team meetings to discuss
  • Collaborate with the Head and Deputy Head of Social Video to develop new formats and execute strategy
  • Ensure compliance with legal covenants, such as the UK Editors' Code of Practice, media law, copyright law, and editorial guidelines
  • Forward plan for key events and ensure video output aligns with the overall strategy of the business
  • Liaise with departments across the business to ensure the social video team has everything it needs
  • Help build a strong voice across video output

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience working in a newsroom or other relevant media environment
  • Strong experience in creating engaging and social-first video content
  • Deep knowledge of TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube, particularly in terms of their operations
  • Technical proficiency in multimedia technology, including Adobe Creative Suite, with a focus on Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Experience filming in a studio and on location using cameras, lighting, and audio equipment
  • Experience managing a team or delegating tasks, with strong communication skills
  • Experience collaborating with other desks within a busy newsroom
