Job Title: Climate and Nature Emergency Project Manager

South Gloucestershire Council is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Climate and Nature Emergency Project Manager to join our team. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in developing and managing partnership and delivery projects as part of our response to the Climate and Nature Emergency Plan.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead by example to make our operations and services carbon neutral, climate resilient, and nature positive.
  • Enable a low-carbon, climate-resilient, and thriving district through our policies, programmes, operations, and decision-making.
  • Inspire residents, communities, businesses, national government, and agencies to take fast climate and ecological action.
What You Will Be Doing:
  • Work with services across the council, partners, sector-leading experts, and local communities to manage and deliver work priorities and projects of the Climate and Nature Emergency Action Plan and associated programmes.
  • Develop, manage, and deliver projects, providing operational oversight on behalf of internal and partner Project Boards, overseeing finance, procurement, monitoring, and reporting back to funders, and acting as the council point of contact for projects and programmes of work.
  • Manage consultants and other contractors who will provide further technical input to inform development and delivery of projects, working closely with specialist officers within the council and a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Implement projects, achieving and tracking project milestones, targets, and outputs, project management, finance and budgetary management, evaluation, and monitoring, compliance, and reporting requirements, and ensuring that elected members, officers, partners, and funders are briefed and kept updated on progress.
  • Keep abreast of national and sub-regional policy issues and changes, represent the Council at Officer level, and signpost best practice and funding opportunities necessary to achieve the Council's commitments agreed as part of its declaration of a Climate and Nature Emergency.
  • Prepare reports for decisions and make presentations to Council, Committee, Officer, and external meetings, and share and present project learning and outputs through local, regional, and national networks and forums.
Requirements:
  • A relevant professional environmental qualification or equivalent and equivalent relevant professional experience in policy/strategy development, project management, and partnership working.
  • A thorough understanding and experience of the application of relevant policy and practice in relation to carbon management, renewable energy, and climate resilience.
  • The ability to analyse, interpret, and communicate complex data and technical information and recommend appropriate courses of action.
  • Experience of planning and managing multidisciplinary projects and project teams of internal and external stakeholders with the ability to work collaboratively to facilitate and bring about change.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex information to technical and non-technical audiences at all levels.
  • The ability to organise and facilitate successful meetings and events, be well-organised and self-motivated, with the ability to cope with competing demands, identifying priorities, and working to targets and deadlines.
