Key Responsibilities

PRIMARY DUTIES:

Implement the neurobehavioral model for brain injury, showcasing expertise in contemporary research and best practices. Oversee and prioritize a caseload of individuals with intricate mental and physical health challenges and/or difficult behaviors. Employ evidence-based methodologies, client-centered principles, and clinical judgment to assess, strategize, execute, and review interventions. Conduct thorough evaluations, taking into account the environment, context, and future aspirations of individuals to develop suitable rehabilitation objectives, care strategies, communication, and dysphagia therapy programs, as well as referrals. Navigate communication barriers to actively involve individuals in assessments, rehabilitation, and discharge planning, ensuring informed consent is obtained. When necessary, operate within legal frameworks for individuals who may lack the capacity to consent. Obtain consent from individuals or their advocates to share information with family members, caregivers, and other relevant parties, while upholding confidentiality rights. Provide insights regarding service users' communication capabilities and support requirements. Conduct swallowing assessments, offering recommendations, care plans, referrals, and training for staff in the safe management and rehabilitation of dysphagia.

Maintain awareness and compliance with risk management and safeguarding responsibilities, actively seeking improvements and assisting others in doing the same. Complete risk assessments and identify opportunities to enhance health and safety within the work environment as needed. Exercise duty of care in all aspects of the role. Maintain equipment and inventory within the work area, notifying the service manager of any replacement needs. Uphold registration with the Health and Care Professionals Council, adhering to their requirements for portfolio compilation.

Actively serve as a role model, accepting professional accountability and responsibility.

Research and Development

Undertake research and/or audit projects pertinent to speech and language therapy, as well as the service and organization.

Actively engage in the ongoing sustainability of the service and organization.

Make recommendations on issues related to speech and language therapy.

Participate in relevant meetings, both clinical and developmental, to ensure effective collaborative communication and decision-making.

Ensure appropriate liaison with relevant clinical teams, departments, support networks, and special interest groups.

Contribute to the recruitment, training, education, and development of others, including service users, families, and the staff team.

Promote awareness of the role of speech and language therapy within the team and negotiate priorities as appropriate.

Participate in regular training sessions, both formal and informal, on various topics relevant to the role.

Attend and engage in training programs/courses, both locally and at other Trust premises and external sources, as appropriate for the role and development in agreement with the line manager.

Complete all mandatory training provided by the Trust and remain aware of other learning opportunities.
