Microbiology Biomedical Scientist Specialist

Job Overview
Are you dedicated to enhancing patient outcomes? We are seeking a proficient and motivated Biomedical Scientist with HCPC registration to join our dynamic laboratory team.
The ideal candidate will be an integral part of the Microbiology department, executing scientific procedures and interpreting results from biological specimens to aid in the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of various diseases, as well as investigating other pathological conditions.
Candidates will rotate through different sections of the laboratory, with comprehensive training provided. Our laboratory operates core hours from 08:30 to 17:00, but we also offer 24/7 coverage through extended hours and an on-call service. Upon completion of training, successful candidates will be expected to fully engage in extended hours, weekend shifts, Bank holiday duties, and on-call responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
- Utilize analytical skills to assess the pathogenic and clinical relevance of laboratory test results, including: preparing, examining, and reporting on microscopic analyses of specimens; determining suitable tests and procedures for identifying pathogenic organisms; conducting and interpreting molecular diagnostic tests; and referring results for clinical evaluation.
- Conduct manual, semi-automated, and fully automated laboratory investigations.
- Implement corrective measures when quality control or assurance protocols indicate a decline in laboratory instrument or method performance.
- Ensure first-line troubleshooting of complex analytical equipment or methodologies.
- Adhere strictly to current Standard Operating Procedures.
- Safely manage blood, urine, feces, organs, other body tissues, and hazardous materials.
- Contribute to the introduction of new equipment or methodologies.
- Supervise and monitor the performance of Medical Laboratory Assistants, Associate Practitioners, and trainees/students.
- Engage in the maintenance and enhancement of the quality management system.
- Comply with best practices in line with UKAS Accreditation standards and other relevant professional and legislative requirements.
- Assist and stand in for the BMS7 as necessary.
- Adapt to the service's needs, which may include participating in any integrated shift system or rotation pattern within the department.

Qualifications
Essential
- BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science or equivalent.
- Registration with HCPC.
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
Experience
Essential
- Experience working in a Microbiology Laboratory.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols.
Desirable
- Experience in a Microbiology laboratory with a similar test repertoire.
