The role of Lead Consultant in Psychotherapy is a newly established position focused on enhancing the existing Psychotherapy services across CNWL Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS). We seek a committed and motivated Psychotherapist who is eager to lead the development of therapeutic pathways within a specialized service for children, young people, and their families across multiple boroughs. The successful appointee will oversee and collaborate with Therapy Leads in various areas, ensuring high standards of clinical governance, quality, and appropriateness of the psychotherapeutic work conducted within CAMHS, including supervision and training.

As a Lead Psychotherapist for CAMHS, you will provide expert knowledge and consultation on complex cases, contributing to the professional development of your colleagues. There will be opportunities to spearhead trust-wide initiatives and engage in various specialties, driving service evaluation, time-limited projects, and audits as directed by the Head of Therapies.

It is essential that the postholder is a registered Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist with the ACP.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities associated with this role include:

  1. Collaborating with Consultant Leads and Team Managers of CAMHS services and other relevant service leads to design and deliver integrated services that meet the needs of service users.
  2. Leading efforts to ensure CAMHS provides accessible and acceptable services to diverse local communities.
  3. Proactively addressing discrimination and fostering the development of culturally competent services.
  4. Supporting adherence to child and adolescent psychotherapy models by assisting managers and CAPT Leads in effective recruitment practices.
  5. Participating in the recruitment process for Lead Child and Adolescent Psychotherapists across all boroughs, including shortlisting, interviewing, and advising on job descriptions and advertisements.
  6. Providing leadership to enhance staff engagement with CNWL CAMHS service objectives.
  7. Contributing to quality improvement initiatives and encouraging CAPT Leads to engage in quality improvement projects.
  8. Ensuring governance of CAPT training placements by overseeing arrangements for HEE funded clinical training placements for Band 6 Child and Adolescent Psychotherapists.
Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications:

  • Master's level preclinical training from an Association of Child and Adolescent Psychotherapists recognized training institution.
  • Postgraduate training (doctoral equivalent) in clinical Child and Adolescent psychotherapy from an accredited training school.
  • Completion of additional post-qualification specialist training.
  • Training in supervision of Child and Adolescent Psychotherapists.

Essential Experience:

  • Extensive experience as a qualified clinical Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist.
  • Experience in the professional management of qualified clinical Child and Adolescent Psychotherapists.
  • Experience in multi-professional service development.
  • Experience in psychotherapeutic assessment and treatment of children and adolescents within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience working with a diverse range of children and adolescents and their families.
  • Experience in a multi-disciplinary/multi-agency team environment.
  • Experience in teaching, training, and clinical supervision of Child and Adolescent Psychotherapists.
  • Experience applying Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy in various cultural contexts.

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience in hospital settings.
  • Experience in perinatal mental health.
  • Publication record in peer-reviewed journals or professional literature.

Essential Knowledge:

  • In-depth knowledge of current models and methods of Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy.
  • Comprehensive understanding of short-term and long-term psychotherapy practices.
  • Extensive knowledge of legislation regarding children and adolescents.
  • Familiarity with NHS, Social Care, and Education structures and policies.
  • Strong communication skills for conveying complex information effectively.
  • Leadership and management capabilities.
  • Skills in providing consultation to various professional groups.

Desirable Knowledge:

  • Experience in hospital work.
  • Formal leadership/management training within the NHS.
  • Knowledge of research methodologies and the ability to critically assess research findings.
