We are pleased to announce a position for a Rehabilitation Support Specialist within our dedicated and skilled team at South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust. This role involves collaboration across two specialized units: a premier brain injury rehabilitation unit and a dedicated stroke recovery unit.

This innovative position is designed to provide balanced support across both teams, offering a unique chance to enhance your skills in neurological rehabilitation while working with a diverse patient population.

Our multidisciplinary teams consist of qualified therapists, support personnel, and practitioners who work in unison with the broader healthcare team to deliver exceptional therapy assessments and interventions in this specialized field.

We focus on rehabilitation for individuals recovering from brain injuries and strokes, emphasizing teamwork and adherence to our Trust values to ensure a safe, inclusive, and compassionate service for all patients. This role demands strong personal and time management skills, along with prior experience in a healthcare environment.

Your expertise will play a crucial role in contributing to clinical audits and service evaluations that meet the standards set by regulatory bodies.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

- Obtain informed consent for treatment in line with Trust policies, often engaging with patients and their families who may present complex emotional and physical challenges.

- Develop and implement therapy treatment plans under the guidance of qualified therapists, including patient education and exercise regimens.

- Assess patient progress, making necessary adjustments to treatment plans in consultation with qualified therapists.

- Ensure competency in the use of medical devices and equipment, maintaining compliance with safety standards.

- Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with professional and legal guidelines.

- Manage a defined caseload independently while ensuring a clean and safe working environment.

- Apply clinical knowledge to assess and manage risks within your scope of practice.

- Adhere to infection control protocols to minimize risks to patients and staff.

- Support fellow rehabilitation assistants as needed.

- Collect relevant clinical data as required.

Communication Skills

- Effectively communicate with patients, families, and colleagues to maximize rehabilitation outcomes through various communication methods.

- Foster a collaborative team environment to ensure continuity and efficiency in service delivery.

- Liaise with multidisciplinary team members and medical staff as necessary.

- Conduct formal handovers in the absence of therapists.

Administrative Responsibilities

- Order necessary supplies and maintain adequate inventory levels in collaboration with management.

- Perform administrative tasks, including data entry and filing, while working closely with clerical staff.

- Attend designated meetings as required by senior therapists.

- Identify opportunities for enhancing the inpatient rehabilitation service to optimize patient care.

- Contribute to out-of-hours service provision as needed.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) or a commitment to pursue this qualification.
  • GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths.

Essential Experience

  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting or working with individuals with various physical conditions.
  • Experience collaborating as part of a team.

Essential Skills

  • Proficient IT skills (Word, Email).
  • Ability to present information clearly and logically, both in writing and verbally.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Understanding of data protection, equal opportunities, and health and safety policies.
  • Ability to maintain accurate patient records.
  • Capacity to manage stress and engage with patients and families in challenging situations.

  • Excellent command of the English language.
