About the Role

The County Durham & Darlington NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Movement Disorder Specialist Nurse to join our team. As a key member of the multidisciplinary team, you will provide expert care and management to patients with Parkinson's disease and related neurological movement disorders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a specialist resource in both Parkinson's disease and related neurological movement disorders, providing highly sensitive information, advice, care management, and support to patients, carers, consultants, and general practitioners.
  • Promote and initiate research-based nursing and medical practice, identifying and addressing individual needs, setting, and implementing programs of care.
  • Identify and address shortfalls in service provision Trust-wide, initiating new specialist support developments within hospital and community settings.
  • Network across the specialty of Parkinson's disease and related movement disorders, both locally and nationally, developing links to improve service delivery.
  • Work closely with charitable organizations and provide support and education to local support groups.
  • Communicate highly sensitive information in a professional manner to patients, relatives, and all members of the multidisciplinary team.
Requirements
  • Experience working with complex patients with multiple comorbidities.
  • Experience managing own caseload.
  • Experience with neurological conditions, especially Parkinson's disease.
  • Statutory registration with the NMC/AHPF.
  • Relevant qualifications, such as RGN/RMH/AHP.
  • Relevant experience in the current role.
  • Degree/diploma in a relevant field.
