Position: Commercial Director

In this key role, you will report directly to an Executive Director and collaborate closely with other members of the Executive Committee and senior leadership. Your mission will be to establish a commercial vision, spearhead commercial initiatives, and ensure that we procure high-quality, cost-effective services from external partners to fulfill our organizational objectives.

Contract Type: Permanent

Working Hours: Full-time is 35 hours per week. We are open to discussing part-time or flexible working arrangements, so please indicate your preferences in your application.

Compensation: Starting from £124,000

Reporting Structure: Chief Finance and Risk Officer

Our hybrid work policy requires at least four days in the office every two weeks.

With a proactive approach, you will advocate for commercial efficiency, making compelling cases for value-driven decisions. Collaborating with our transformation and continuous improvement teams, you will explore innovative technologies and methodologies that enhance value.

Your responsibilities will encompass providing commercial leadership throughout the entire project lifecycle, from grasping business objectives to managing third-party service contracts and ensuring effective exit strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Exerting commercial leadership and influencing senior stakeholders to make informed decisions, championing commercial initiatives.
  • Ensuring optimal pricing for services that align with our strategic goals and deliver value.
  • Formulating a comprehensive commercial strategy, endorsed by the Executive and Board, that balances immediate, mid-term, and long-term objectives.
  • Supporting the Executive Committee and Board in making sound commercial decisions while managing associated risks.
  • Providing thought leadership on external legislation impacts, such as Environmental Social Governance (ESG) and procurement regulations.
  • Representing the organization in commercial discussions with external entities, including regulatory bodies and industry events.
Collaborating with Executive members to foster a culture of commercial success.Ensuring adherence to public sector procurement regulations and adapting to future changes.Achieving value for money through clear commitments and effective management of contracts.Overseeing vendor and contract governance, including reporting and performance evaluations.Acting as the public representative of the organization in supplier relations, ensuring we are a preferred partner.Reporting supplier performance metrics to the Executive Committee.Ensuring compliance with contract terms and guiding on leveraging agreements.Leading a skilled and efficient commercial team to meet the evolving demands of our organization.Managing supplier relationships and leading negotiations and conflict resolutions.

To qualify for this role, candidates must demonstrate:

  • Extensive experience in translating organizational strategy into actionable commercial plans.
  • Proven ability to engage with Board and Executive stakeholders, driving impactful discussions.
  • Experience in leading high-value commercial negotiations while adhering to public sector regulations.
  • A strong history of contributing to strategic planning and fostering commercial efficiencies.
  • A successful track record in senior leadership roles within customer-focused organizations.
  • Effective management of core commercial teams.
