Job Overview

The Clinical Support Assistant plays a vital role in assisting healthcare professionals. This position involves managing administrative responsibilities and, when required, performing basic clinical tasks to enhance the efficiency of healthcare delivery and improve patient satisfaction. We are seeking a motivated and proactive individual to join our supportive team.

A solid understanding of administrative functions within a healthcare setting and experience with clinical IT systems would be beneficial. This role is designed for development, and comprehensive training will be provided in line with the national competency framework.

Candidates should possess exceptional organizational abilities, keen attention to detail, and strong communication skills.

While this is a full-time position, we are open to considering part-time applicants.

Key Responsibilities

We are looking for a candidate with outstanding communication skills and a dedication to being part of a cohesive and effective team. Our operational hours are Monday to Friday from 8 AM to 6 PM. You will be expected to work shifts within these hours, with schedules planned at least a month in advance.

About The Whalebridge Practice

The Whalebridge Practice is seeking a Clinical Support Assistant to join our team across multiple locations. Ideally, the successful candidate will have prior administrative experience.

This role can be tailored to full-time or part-time commitments.

Specific Duties

The Clinical Support Assistant will assist physicians by:

  • Updating patient records with appropriate clinical coding.
  • Communicating with patients to gather information, share updates, and schedule appointments.
  • Managing computer tasks efficiently and promptly.
  • Coordinating with external organizations to obtain necessary information.
  • Preparing and dispatching referrals through the electronic referral system.
  • Completing forms for review and signature by physicians.
  • Drafting letters and electronic communications on behalf of doctors.
  • Requesting laboratory tests using the ICE system.

The Clinical Support Assistant may also perform the following clinical tasks upon request from a physician:

  • Conducting urine sample tests
  • Measuring blood pressure
  • Performing ECGs
  • Collecting blood samples

Professional Development

The Clinical Support Assistant will undergo training in all areas outlined in the Health Education England General Practice Assistant Competency Framework.

To achieve this, they will:

  • Participate in training on various IT systems.
  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of all administrative processes within the practice.
  • Develop and maintain essential clinical skills.
  • Attend external training sessions.

Qualifications

Essential Requirements

  • Completion or progress towards the GP Assistant framework.
  • Completion of a phlebotomy course.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Maths and English at GCSE level.

Experience

Essential Requirements

  • Experience working in a healthcare environment.
  • Experience collaborating within a team.
  • Familiarity with clinical IT systems.
  • Experience with clinical coding.
