Job Summary
  • Develop and implement Logistics UK's decarbonisation policy strategy across all logistics transport modes.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to drive forward policy goals, gathering input and expertise from across the Directorate and business.
  • Stay up-to-date on policy areas, monitoring emerging topics and educating colleagues to support collaboration.
  • Develop policy proposals and positions, engaging with members and stakeholders to shape government and industry thinking.
  • Build relationships with decision-makers and engage effectively with senior government officials, industry stakeholders, and media.
  • Produce high-quality reports, consultation responses, and presentations for various audiences.
  • Deliver effective presentations at Logistics UK events and external conferences.
  • Inform media plans and lines on policy topics, acting as a media spokesperson as required.
  • Support public affairs plans and engagement with political stakeholders.
  • Lead a team of senior policy managers, policy managers, and senior policy advisors, delegating responsibilities and overseeing work.
  • Collaborate with Directorate colleagues, providing expert support on policy issues and lines to take.
  • Support Logistics UK's engagement in designated regions, including Freight Councils.
  • Lead member engagement, managing councils and working groups, representing member views to various audiences.
  • Contribute to cross-Directorate and organisation working to deliver wider business objectives.
Responsibilities
  • Develop policy positions and campaigns on decarbonisation, with the ability to adapt to additional topics.
  • Ensure accuracy in policy information and positions, representing member views accurately.
  • Provide expert policy support across Logistics UK, helping deliver wider business goals.
  • Act as Secretary to councils and working groups, arranging engagement, speakers, and meetings.
  • Coach and develop direct reports, collaborating with the wider team.
  • Deliver to budget and demonstrate Logistics UK's core values: Excellence, Dynamism, Togetherness, and Reputation.

Requirements

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • Persuasive and articulate communication skills, written, verbal, and presentation.
  • Ability to represent Logistics UK externally at high levels of government and media.
  • Team player contributing to Logistics UK's policy, communications, and commercial objectives.
  • Understanding of public policy development and influencing.
  • Interest in logistics issues or willingness to learn.
  • Prepared to travel regularly for the role.
  • Experience working on environmental and sustainability issues, particularly in transport.
  • Policy experience in a relevant business area, agency, trade association, government department, or public body.
