Position Overview

Hutcheon Mearns is collaborating with a leading firm in the livestock nutrition sector to appoint a new Director of Commercial Operations. This position is tailored for a seasoned professional seeking a fresh opportunity within a distinguished and reputable organization that is experiencing ongoing growth.

About the Organization

The organization is a key player in the agriculture and livestock nutrition field, dedicated to enhancing animal performance and welfare. As it continues to grow, the company is in search of a Director of Commercial Operations to spearhead the Commercial division and contribute as a member of the Senior Leadership Team.

Key Responsibilities

The Director of Commercial Operations will be responsible for leading the Commercial team, which encompasses Trading, Procurement, and Pricing. This role will collaborate closely with the CEO and CFO to establish and implement both short-term and long-term strategies and objectives for the organization.

Trading Responsibilities:

  • Formulate and oversee the execution of the trading strategy for the organization.
  • Collaborate with revenue stream directors to ensure the trading strategy aligns with ongoing business needs.
  • Partner with Technical and Compliance teams to ensure adherence to current and forthcoming regulations, providing guidance on necessary adjustments.

Procurement Duties:

  • Develop and manage the execution of the organization's procurement strategy, focusing on raw materials and retail goods.
  • Work alongside the procurement team and stakeholders to enhance business performance and processes.

Pricing Strategy:

  • Create and manage the implementation of pricing and costing strategies, including establishing pricing policies with revenue stream directors.

Cross-Functional Responsibilities:

  • Deliver precise forecasting and reporting for all areas to the Board of Directors and relevant stakeholders to enhance business performance.
  • Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the commercial function.
  • Establish Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for commercial functions to foster continuous improvement and ongoing business development within the industry.
  • Collaborate with the broader Senior Leadership Team to drive the overall strategic direction of the organization.
  • Provide regular insights on market trends and competitor activities to inform the development of the commercial operations and the wider business.
  • Serve as an escalation point for complex commercial issues and escalate key matters to the Board as necessary.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Degree-level education.
  • Strong numerical skills with a solid understanding of data analysis.
  • Proven experience and success in complex, fast-paced commercial environments.
  • Extensive commercial experience in trading, procurement, and pricing.
  • Demonstrated history of making significant contributions to commercial functions and strategies on a large scale.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain positive working relationships at a senior level, with strong negotiation and influence skills.
