Pediatric Ventilation Care Assistant

Edinburgh, Edinburgh, United Kingdom NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde Full time

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is recognized as one of the largest healthcare organizations in the UK, employing approximately 40,000 individuals across a diverse range of clinical and non-clinical roles. Our services encompass acute hospital care, primary care, community health, and mental health support for a population exceeding 1.15 million, expanding to 2.2 million when considering our regional and national services.

Pediatric Ventilation Care Assistant - Band 3

We are seeking dedicated individuals who have a genuine interest in providing care for children with complex medical conditions to become part of our specialized Pediatric Home Ventilation Service team.

We encourage applications from candidates who possess experience in caring for children, whether through voluntary roles or personal caregiving, as well as those with backgrounds in childcare or healthcare, including relevant qualifications.

The Pediatric Home Ventilation Service is designed to assist ventilator-dependent children, enabling them to enjoy a relatively normal family life outside of hospital settings. This role involves supporting children who require ventilators for breathing and assisting with everyday activities typical for young children. While prior healthcare experience is advantageous, it is not mandatory, as a comprehensive competency-based training program will be provided in a hospital setting before any home-based duties commence.

Our staff work a combination of day and night shifts to meet the specific needs of the children we support across various Health Board Areas. We currently provide services to children throughout Greater Glasgow, Ayrshire, and Lanarkshire. Your role is vital in helping families care for their child and maintain a sense of normalcy in their lives. Candidates must be flexible and able to work both day and night shifts.

Upon completion of your training, your responsibilities will include:

  • Care for ventilators
  • Conducting active observations
  • Assisting with tube feeding
  • Providing tracheostomy care
  • Supporting toileting needs
  • Assisting with mobility
  • Managing seizure episodes

For further information about the Home Ventilation Service, please refer to the leaflet attached to this advertisement.

Note: The salary will be calculated on a pro-rata basis for part-time hours.
