Job Overview

Objective of the Role

The Gas Systems Engineer will perform specialized tasks with proficiency and professionalism, ensuring timely and financially responsible execution of planned maintenance schedules, reactive tasks, and other service level agreements as specified by the Client and BGIS. The responsibilities must be fulfilled to meet or surpass the expectations of both BGIS and the Client, adhering to all relevant policies, procedures, and health and safety regulations.

The Gas Systems Engineer is expected to produce both written and electronic documentation of high quality and communicate all pertinent issues clearly and objectively to the Client and BGIS management. This role requires the ability to obtain and compile all necessary permits in accordance with BGIS's Safe Systems of Work. The Engineer will be accountable for executing all assigned tasks and responsibilities as directed by their supervisors, providing daily updates to BGIS management.

Core Responsibilities
  • Delivering immediate response to critical heating and hot water systems, including gas pipework, outside of standard working hours when necessary.
  • Competently enabling and resetting critical systems following power interruptions, ensuring they are left in a safe and operational state.
  • Ensuring that company-issued tools are PAT tested, certified, and properly logged.
  • Maintaining compliance with legislation and industry standards for specialist meters.
  • Estimating time and materials for projects and constructing quotations to assist the Client Supervisor with detailed parts and service requirements.
  • Supporting local financial oversight on all reactive and essential repairs through effective practices and collaboration with the Client Supervisor.
  • Monitoring and managing inventory of spare parts and materials on a job-to-job basis to ensure adherence to financial controls and timelines.
  • Maintaining site logbooks and Gas Safe records in support of the Client Supervisor.
  • Coordinating reactive service calls and delivery for the client in collaboration with the service desk.
  • Reviewing and comprehending risk assessments and method statements prior to commencing work, ensuring a full understanding of the Safe Systems of Work.
  • Documenting and reporting plant information while escalating any identified issues.
  • Possessing knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC and gas systems.
  • Understanding budgetary practices to assist the Client Supervisor in managing job expenditures.
  • Demonstrating skills in the operation, installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC and gas systems.
  • Exhibiting strong verbal and written communication skills with office staff, engineers, and clients.
  • Applying engineering techniques to meet the required British Standards or IGE equivalents across all areas.
