Job Overview

Objective of the Role

The Gas Systems Engineer will perform specialized tasks with proficiency and professionalism, ensuring timely and financially controlled execution of planned maintenance schedules, reactive tasks, and other service level agreements as directed by the Client and BGIS. The work must be conducted to meet or surpass BGIS and Client expectations while adhering to established policies, procedures, and relevant health and safety regulations.

The Gas Systems Engineer is responsible for submitting both written and electronic documentation of high quality and effectively communicating all pertinent issues to the Client and BGIS management. The Engineer must be adept at obtaining and compiling all necessary permits in accordance with BGIS Safe Systems of Work. Additionally, the Engineer will carry out all tasks and responsibilities assigned by their supervisors and provide daily updates to BGIS management.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Delivering immediate response to critical heating and hot water systems, including gas pipework, outside of standard business hours when required.
  • Capable of enabling and resetting critical systems following power outages and service interruptions, ensuring they are left in a safe and operational condition.
  • Ensuring that company-issued tools are PAT tested, certified, and logged appropriately.
  • Maintaining certification and compliance of specialized meters in line with current legislation and industry standards.
  • Estimating time and materials accurately and constructing quotations to support the Client Supervisor with detailed information on parts and services needed.
  • Assisting with local financial oversight on all reactive and essential repairs through effective practices and collaboration with the Client Supervisor.
  • Monitoring and managing the inventory of spare parts and materials on a job-to-job basis to ensure financial control and adherence to timelines.
  • Maintaining and updating site logbooks and Gas Safe records in support of the Client Supervisor.
  • Coordinating reactive service calls and ensuring timely service delivery for the client in collaboration with the service desk.
  • Reviewing and comprehending risk assessments and method statements prior to the commencement of work, fully understanding the scope of the Safe Systems of Work.
  • Monitoring and documenting plant information and escalating any identified issues.
  • Possessing knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC and gas systems.
  • Understanding budgetary practices and principles to assist the Client Supervisor in managing job expenditures.
  • Demonstrating skills in the operation, installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC and gas systems.
  • Exhibiting proficiency in both verbal and written communication with office staff, engineers, and clients.
  • Applying engineering techniques in accordance with the required British Standards or IGE equivalents across all tasks.
