The successful candidate will be part of a forward-thinking mental health team.

Our Emotional Health and Wellbeing services operate during hours that cater to the needs of the communities we serve, which may involve working during evenings, weekends, and public holidays.

This is a permanent role, with funding anticipated to continue until March 2025.

Are you passionate about supporting a team that assists children and young people facing emotional, behavioral, and mental health challenges?

This role involves leading and coordinating a clinically informed youth work team that delivers brief intervention services in Gateshead, aiding staff in providing support to children, young people, and young adults through our Emotional Health & Wellbeing services, which focus on low-intensity support within a brief intervention framework.

Plans are in place to offer various drop-in sessions at venues in Gateshead, which are yet to be determined.

Given the nature of our Emotional Health & Wellbeing services, the ability to quickly establish relationships, identify risks, and facilitate further support is essential.

Required Skills:

  • Creative problem-solving abilities and adaptability to new challenges.
  • Extensive experience in leadership and management of diverse teams across various settings.
  • Initiative to work independently, supervise others, and coordinate tasks effectively.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Proficient in using IT applications.
  • Capability to apply therapeutic models in practice.
  • Experience in coordinating work schedules, including on-call rotations.
  • Proven ability to work independently and demonstrate aptitude for lone working.
  • Experience in report writing and effective presentation skills.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • In-depth understanding of common mental and emotional health challenges faced by children and young people, supported by current research and evidence.
  • Clinical insight into emotional and mental health pathways within NHS Children and Young People Mental Health Services.
  • Awareness of the challenges faced by hard-to-reach young people regarding access to early help and crisis support.
  • Familiarity with local mental health support agencies.
  • Understanding of current legislation, policies, procedures, and issues related to safeguarding young people.
  • Significant leadership experience within a mental health service.
  • Proven track record of collaborating with external stakeholders to achieve better outcomes for children and young people.
  • Experience working with a diverse range of partners, both statutory and non-statutory.

The Children's Society is dedicated to safeguarding and protecting the children and young people we serve. All positions are subject to a thorough recruitment process, including criminal record disclosures and vetting checks. We maintain a comprehensive set of policies and procedures to promote safeguarding and ensure safe working practices across our services.

Candidates applying for roles within our Youth Impact Domain will be required to complete an "Employment history template" document prior to the interview process.
