About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Counsellor to join our team at Study Group. As a Counsellor, you will play a pivotal role in providing essential support and guidance to our students, helping to improve and maintain their mental and emotional wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of student clients, offering online and in-person therapeutic consultations, ongoing counselling sessions, and flexible follow-up and support arrangements.
  • Provide specialist expertise and support, monitoring and managing student referrals, conducting assessments of support needs, and offering brief focused individual counselling.
  • Act as a source of support, advice, and expertise for all staff, designing and delivering therapeutic, psychoeducational, and peer support groups and workshops.
  • Prepare and deliver counselling information sessions as part of new student induction, ensuring visibility and accessibility of the counselling service.
  • Develop, modify, and optimise service protocols and methodologies to enhance the delivery of stakeholder services, identifying areas for improvement and implementing changes.
  • Collect and analyse student and stakeholder feedback to help define needs and requirements to improve the design, planning, and delivery of services.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of support and ongoing actions, ensuring compliance with data protection legislation.
  • Lead counselling services within the centre, providing statistics, reports, and attending meetings, and contributing to the development of operational service activities to ensure excellence in the student experience.
  • Participate in communities of practice and partnership working internally and externally, including wider ISC meetings, partnership meetings with the University, and individual supervision.
  • Work closely with the Student Support Team to identify and support students with additional needs due to health or SEND.
  • Monitor students attending counselling sessions, working with the Student Support Team to support and address concerns with any students that fail to attend counselling sessions.
  • Feed into the ISC safeguarding team, providing information specific to students who are receiving counselling and escalating concerns as required.

About You

  • A counselling or psychological therapy qualification to Bachelor's or Master's degree level (or equivalent).
  • Current accreditation or registration with a recognised professional body (e.g. BACP, UKCP, BABCP or equivalent).
  • Level 2 Safeguarding and Level 3 qualification (desirable).
  • Experience and expertise in delivering time-limited individual and group interventions.
  • Experience working with adolescents aged 17 years and knowledge of all safeguarding requirements.
  • Experience in mental health risk and crisis management.
  • Knowledge and experience in ensuring compliance with regulatory and organisational policy and guidelines.
  • Experience in implementing policy and procedures and ability to contribute to planning at operational level.
  • Experience working with diversity, including individuals with Protected Characteristics (desirable).
  • Experience working with international clients and cultural awareness of the issues brought on by young international students (desirable).
