We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to join our team at Tarmac's Birmingham Asphalt Plant and Rail Head at Washwood Heath. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and cost-effective running of the onsite modern asphalt batching plant and the busy rail head and aggregates supply facility.
Key Responsibilities- Manage and be accountable for all operations on our plant, ensuring safety and operational standards are maintained.
- Lead change and continuous improvement initiatives, while maintaining disciplined stock management processes and producing operational reports.
- Responsible for all aspects of budgetary control for the multi-faceted operation.
- Manage stock control for all incoming materials for the busy depot and rail head with multiple train deliveries each week.
- Maintain and implement existing and new standard Operating procedures, risk assessments, and training staff on the same.
- Manage and oversee the safe operation of the plant and the planned preventative maintenance of all site equipment, fixed and mobile.
- Organise statutory inspections and action defects identified within these reports.
- Report and investigate any unsafe or hazardous working practices.
- Issue safety briefings and toolbox talks to your operational team.
- Manage proactively both mandatory training and developmental training of your staff and keep an up-to-date training matrix.
- Collate and report on monthly performance KPIs for your business unit for the Area Operations Manager and drive operational performance through KPIs.
- Ensure appropriate Contractor and visitor inductions are carried out in line with company procedures.
- Experience with Rail Head and Plant operations.
- Previous experience of an Asphalt / Aggregates / Ready Mix environment.
- Full knowledge of Risk Assessments and Safe System of Work Systems.
- Working knowledge of production processes, H&S and Environmental policies.
- A high level of education is required, along with excellent IT skills, including a high level of competence with SAP and the Microsoft packages – Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to multitask and manage change.
