Position Overview

Role Summary

Candidates should possess registration as an adult nurse along with demonstrable ongoing professional development. A solid background in clinical practice within the NHS is essential, coupled with a commitment to personal growth and the development of others. Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities are required, along with the initiative to work independently while managing a patient caseload across various research initiatives.

We are currently seeking a Band 6 Research Nurse to join our Haemophilia Research Team, which is actively engaged in launching innovative trials, including those focused on gene therapy.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a caseload of patients, ensuring their care and support throughout their involvement in clinical trials. Responsibilities will include:

  • Autonomously managing a patient caseload, ensuring a professional duty of care to patients and their families.
  • Adhering to EU clinical trial regulations in line with ICH GCP (International Conference on Harmonisation and Good Clinical Practice), ensuring compliance with clinical trial protocols.
  • Identifying eligible patients for clinical trials by participating in clinics and Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings.
  • Facilitating the informed consent process, providing resources and support to patients and their families.
  • Coordinating the research patient journey from initial screening through to trial completion.

As part of Kings Health Partners, the Oncology and Haematology Clinical Trials (OHCT) team comprises over ninety professionals, including Research Nurses, Clinical Trial Practitioners, Clinical Trial Coordinators, and the Safety & Support Team at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.

Our team collaborates closely with oncology and haematology medical professionals to recruit patients for trials and ensure thorough monitoring throughout the process. We manage a substantial portfolio of Phase II and III trials, organized into teams focused on specific tumour types. Additionally, we have a dedicated team for early phase trials, conducting weekly early phase clinics within the Clinical Research Facility. Our trials encompass both commercial and non-commercial studies, ranging from interventional drug or radiotherapy trials to observational research.

Our mission is to enhance treatment options, clinical care, and outcomes for cancer patients through innovation, commitment, and excellence in clinical trials.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications

  • NMC Registration with prior experience in an acute NHS setting.
  • Degree-level education or higher.
  • Evidence of ongoing personal, professional, and academic development.

  • Relevant post-registration qualifications.

  • Significant experience in a haemophilia or clinical trial environment.
  • Proficiency in managing complex relationships.
  • Experience in mentoring and developing colleagues.
