Policy Manager at Smart DCC

Location: Flexible

Compensation: Competitive salary with additional benefits

Role Summary

The Policy Manager will play a crucial role within the Strategy and Policy team, enhancing the credibility of Smart DCC by establishing a well-considered policy stance on both current and emerging issues pertinent to the energy sector, such as fuel poverty, energy efficiency, and system flexibility. This expertise will serve as a foundation for informed decision-making regarding business strategies and medium-term objectives, while also facilitating effective engagement with essential external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of specific areas of policy, becoming the subject matter expert on topics like fuel poverty, energy efficiency, and system flexibility.
  • Conduct thorough research to map the evolving policy landscape, identifying potential opportunities for innovation funding to support the development of policy positions.
  • Lead the formulation of responses to consultations and proactively develop thought leadership positions and propositions in relevant policy areas.
  • Build and maintain a network of key external stakeholders to enhance understanding and awareness of Smart DCC's capabilities in designated policy areas.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the organization to share insights and intelligence on policy matters.

Candidate Profile

  • In-depth knowledge of the energy market and its current trends.
  • Experience in developing policy positions within government (central or local) or regulated industries.
  • Strong research capabilities along with excellent verbal and written communication skills, comfortable preparing reports, briefings, and presentations for senior management.
  • Collaborative approach, capable of engaging with colleagues at all levels and external stakeholders.
  • Highly organized, able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while ensuring timely and quality completion. Project management experience is a plus.
