London, Greater London, United Kingdom OFGEM Full time

Job Overview

Ofgem is at the forefront of combating climate change across Great Britain. We are seeking an Analyst to contribute significantly to the creation of a fairer and more sustainable energy system, ensuring that consumers are both empowered and safeguarded.

As Great Britain’s independent energy regulator, Ofgem is pivotal in driving transformation within the energy sector, aiming for Net Zero while prioritizing the protection of energy consumers, particularly those who are vulnerable.

This full-time, permanent position places you at the core of consumer protection, ensuring that every decision is rooted in consumer welfare and aligns with our mission.

In this multifaceted role, your insights will play a crucial part in formulating robust, evidence-based policies, while also ensuring effective communication of these policies to a diverse array of stakeholders. By becoming part of our dynamic team, you will engage in high-profile initiatives within the energy sector that have a positive impact on consumers, enhance customer service, drive retail market reforms, and ensure adherence to regulations.

We are looking for individuals with a strong interest in the energy sector who are eager to build a rewarding career and seize a unique opportunity to make a tangible difference. Candidates should possess strong analytical skills, proficiency in Excel, and excellent communication abilities to thrive in this role.

This position is suitable for both recent graduates eager to make an impact and seasoned analysts looking to elevate their careers. You will have the opportunity to enhance your skills in policy design and analysis, with ample opportunities for professional development.

We are committed to fostering a work environment that promotes your professional growth while ensuring a healthy work-life balance. We offer flexible working hours and hybrid working arrangements, complemented by an attractive range of benefits and rewards.

Becoming part of our organization means contributing to a dedicated mission aimed at creating a positive future for millions of consumers. If you are passionate about making a difference and shaping the future of energy, this is where your talents can truly shine.

Role Purpose

In these challenging times, we must accelerate our efforts to achieve the nation’s climate objectives and reduce our dependence on fossil fuels to shield ourselves from future price shocks. We seek individuals ready to confront these challenges directly and assist us in delivering a greener and fairer energy system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses to present clear, actionable insights that support the policy development process.
  • Analyze complex concepts and navigate uncertainty to resolve issues and contribute to effective policy recommendations.
  • Evaluate the reliability and relevance of evidence, providing objective advice.
  • Perform high-quality analyses to build the evidence base and impact assessments integral to the policy development process.
  • Communicate the benefits, challenges, and trade-offs of policy proposals to senior colleagues, backed by evidence.
  • Produce internal and external documents, ensuring analysis is presented in an accessible manner for non-experts.
  • Engage with internal stakeholders and other analytical and policy specialists to define and agree on analytical contributions for policy options.
  • Collaborate with peers and other teams to support, assure quality, and enhance others’ analytical capabilities.

Essential Qualifications

  • Proven experience in delivering qualitative and/or quantitative analysis, with a focus on analytical quality assurance.
  • Degree-level education in mathematics, science, computer science, economics, or related fields, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel and data visualization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of conveying complex issues to non-expert audiences and stakeholders at various levels.
  • Able to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, fostering constructive and transparent engagement.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the energy sector and regulatory frameworks, including an understanding of the commercial aspects of the energy market and/or regulatory and competition economics.

Benefits

In addition to a competitive salary, Ofgem offers a comprehensive benefits package, including contributions to a defined benefit pension scheme, generous annual leave, excellent training and development opportunities, and family-friendly policies. Our modern offices provide a vibrant working environment, and we are committed to achieving ambitious targets for establishing a Net Zero energy system by 2050.
