Regional Workforce Development Fellow

London, Greater London, United Kingdom NHS England Full time

The purpose of the Fellowship is to enable the postholder to enhance their leadership and program management capabilities within a supportive framework.

This is a distinctive opportunity to engage in regional initiatives that align with national strategies, collaborating within a team tasked with executing the Long-Term Workforce Plan (LTWP) in London.

The fellow will contribute vital clinical insights across various workstreams, taking on specific projects within the program, which includes participation in the ongoing National Distribution of Medical Specialty Training initiative.

The implementation of the LTWP in London is organized through three clusters, with the education and training cluster being directed by the regional Postgraduate Dean.

Within this cluster, a Medical and Dental subgroup, overseen by the Associate Dean for Secondary Care, is managing a variety of projects spanning dental, primary care, foundation, undergraduate, and secondary care.

Specific initiatives related to the support of Locally employed doctors, the portfolio pathway route (previously CESR), and lead employer models are currently under development.

The responsibilities of the fellow will encompass:

  • Assisting specialties in recognizing workforce requirements in response to growth and distribution
  • Facilitating the development of the medical workforce, including locally employed doctors, SAS, and the educator workforce
  • Evaluating existing data and evidence on current and transformative workforce; serving as an expert collaborator for individual Trusts
  • Collaborating with Trust clinical and education leaders and with ICS workforce boards to define and strategize the implementation of potential solutions
  • Advocating for workforce transformation tools (FasterClass, STAR, CLEAR, distribution Toolkit) to providers.
  • Participating in meetings and providing updates on workforce transformation initiatives within specialties.
The NHS England board has articulated the overarching purpose for the new organization to guide the NHS in England towards delivering high-quality services for all, which will inform the detailed design work and we will achieve this purpose by:

  • Empowering local systems and providers to enhance the health of their communities and patients while reducing health disparities.
  • Creating an environment where the NHS is a great place to work, enabling our people to make a difference and realize their potential.
  • Collaborating to ensure our healthcare workforce possesses the right knowledge, skills, values, and behaviors to deliver accessible, compassionate care
  • Maximizing the utilization of digital technology, research, and innovation
  • Ensuring value for money.
If you wish to learn more or require additional information, please refer to the attached documents for further details regarding the job, organizational structure, recruitment profile, expected outcomes, and benefits information.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are anticipated to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.

Applicants from within the NHS will be considered for secondment only, and prior agreement should be obtained from their employer before submitting the application.
