Position Overview

We are seeking a qualified professional to join our Cellular Pathology Department as a Senior Consultant. This role is a blend of new opportunities and a replacement position within our esteemed institution.

This full-time consultant role is situated within the Pathology Clinical Support Unit, aimed at enhancing the Thoracic and Breast pathology services provided to our healthcare network. The breast pathology team also engages in NHS screening program activities, while both teams handle diagnostic cytology and histology specimens. Our Thoracic service is supported by a team of five specialized histopathologists, and the Breast service comprises six professionals, with a mix of full-time and part-time roles. This position combines newly allocated thoracic responsibilities with the replacement of established breast roles. Our department is committed to postgraduate training, contributing significantly to the region's educational programs, and maintains strong ties with the academic pathology department, recognized for its extensive clinical academic training.

Key Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will hold an FRCPath qualification (or equivalent) and must be registered on the Specialist Register or nearing completion of their training program. Compliance with consultant appointment regulations is essential, and all applicants must be on the Specialist Register.

Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in Thoracic and Breast pathology, with a proven interest and experience in these specialties, including familiarity with breast screening program specimens. A dedication to both undergraduate and postgraduate education is highly valued.

We welcome applications from individuals interested in full-time, part-time, or job-sharing arrangements.

If selected for an interview, candidates will be required to present on the topic of how our Cellular Pathology Department can support genomic medicine services for cancer patients.

Job Responsibilities

This position entails a full-time (10 PA) consultant role within the Pathology Clinical Support Unit, focusing on delivering pathology services to our healthcare network. Our department operates collaboratively to provide a specialized pathology service tailored to the needs of our tertiary center.

The appointee will possess specialized experience in thoracic and breast diagnostic surgical pathology, as well as breast cytopathology. We strive to adhere to the Royal College of Pathologists' guidelines to ensure equitable workload distribution among our consultants.

Candidates unable to commit to full-time hours for personal reasons will still be considered for this role, with potential modifications to job content discussed on an individual basis.

Diagnostic Service Responsibilities:

iv) Engage in multidisciplinary clinical care and maintain regular surgical multidisciplinary team meetings.

v) Provide coverage for colleagues during periods of leave, with reciprocal arrangements in place.

vi) Actively contribute to a culture of continuous service improvement within the department.
