We are seeking a qualified professional to join our Cellular Pathology Department as a Consultant. This full-time position is integral to the Pathology Clinical Support Unit, focusing on delivering exceptional Thoracic and Breast pathology services to our healthcare network.

Main Responsibilities:

The ideal candidate will hold an FRCPath (or equivalent) and must be registered on the Specialist Register or nearing completion of their training. It is essential that applicants have a solid foundation in Thoracic and Breast pathology, alongside a keen interest in these specialties, particularly in relation to screening program specimens. A commitment to both undergraduate and postgraduate education is highly valued.

We welcome applications from individuals interested in full-time or part-time roles, including those wishing to job share.

If selected for an interview, candidates will be asked to present on the topic of how our Cellular Pathology services can enhance genomic medicine for cancer patients.

Job Duties:

This position entails a full-time commitment (10 PA) to support our pathology services. The successful candidate will possess specialized experience in thoracic and breast diagnostic surgical pathology and cytopathology. Our department emphasizes collaboration and flexibility to meet the needs of our tertiary center.

The key objectives include:
  1. Delivering timely and accurate pathology services in collaboration with fellow consultants.
  2. Participating in review services as part of our tertiary care activities.
  3. Providing expert advice and support to clinical colleagues.
  4. Engaging in multidisciplinary clinical care and attending regular team meetings.
  5. Covering for colleagues during their leave periods.
  6. Contributing to a culture of continuous service improvement.
  7. Working with leadership to ensure efficient service delivery.
  8. Maintaining strong relationships with fellow consultants and technical staff.
  9. Participating in departmental meetings and adhering to management structures.
  10. Supporting laboratory accreditation and quality assurance initiatives.
  11. Engaging in teaching and training for medical staff.
  12. Contributing to research and development initiatives as desired.

Qualifications:

Essential:
  • FRCPath or equivalent qualification.
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).
  • Completion of a recognized training program in Cellular Pathology or Histopathology.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.

Desirable:
  • Relevant higher degree.
  • Experience in training medical students and doctors.

Experience:

Essential:
  • Demonstrated clinical experience in thoracic and breast pathology.

Desirable:
  • Specialist experience in NHS screening program specimens.
