Community Engagement Specialist
£31,005 [pro rata for part time] plus excellent benefits (Work level 6B)
Part time 18.75 hours per week available. Some evening and weekend work may be required.
Field and home based in North Cumbria. You'll need to reside in or very close to this area to be eligible to apply.

At Co-op, we stand for something different; we're owned by and run for our members, and we aim to co-operate to build more value for them every day.

As a Community Engagement Specialist, you'll play a vital role in facilitating connections between our member-owners and Co-op locally, through the design and delivery of activities and engagement opportunities that highlight all aspects of our membership value proposition.

We expect you to unite individuals, connecting with Co-op members, colleagues, and like-minded organizations to promote our values and vision.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Expand your network of Co-op members, colleagues, and community partners to establish local forums, supported by a local digital network, to connect our member-owners to activities in their area.
  • Create an annual local community and member participation plan focused on delivering value to members in your area, and bring the plan to life through engagement opportunities.
  • Collaborate with local causes and community partners that resonate with our members and showcase the benefits of our support.
  • Motivate members to engage as owners through the democratic process, connecting with Members' Council representatives and assisting them in engaging with members in their constituency.
  • Provide opportunities for members to learn more about their Co-op and our vision, promoting our campaigns and sustainability agenda.
  • Foster a One Co-op approach locally, collaborating with Food, Funeralcare, and other businesses to develop joint initiatives, and build positive relationships with Independent Co-operative Societies.
  • Report on activities and provide case studies to demonstrate the significance and impact of our work.
This role would suit individuals who possess:
  • A solid understanding of and belief in our Co-op values and mission.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to engage and unite a diverse range of individuals in an inclusive manner.
  • The capability to work remotely as well as part of a team, effectively managing your own time and activities.
  • Proficient basic IT skills within the Microsoft Office suite, and confidence in utilizing social media.
  • The ability to develop and implement engagement and activity plans.
  • A valid UK driver's license with the flexibility to travel within the defined geographical area.
Why Co-op?
Here you'll do work that matters.

We're a commercial organization with a purpose beyond profit; you'll have an opportunity to help us build a stronger Co-op and stronger communities.

Benefits include:
* Competitive salary
* Coaching, training, and support to aid your development
* Pension with up to 10% employer contributions
* Annual incentive scheme
  • 28 days holiday plus bank holidays (increasing to 32 in line with service)
* Discounts on Co-op products and services
  • Wagestream - a money management app that allows you access to a percentage of your salary as you earn it
* Free support for your physical, mental, and financial wellbeing

Building an Inclusive Work Environment:
We're actively building diverse teams and we welcome applications from everyone. We aim to create inclusive work environments, where our colleagues have equal opportunities to reach their full potential. We celebrate our differences and recognize the importance of our teams reflecting the communities they serve.
If you have a disability, we can make reasonable adjustments to our recruitment process according to your needs.

We're also part of the Disability Confident scheme, meaning we'll always offer an interview to disabled candidates who apply through the scheme if they meet the minimum criteria for a job.

We'll ask whether you'd like to be considered under the Disability Confident scheme when you apply.
