Job Title: Teaching Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our team at Catch22 College in Maidstone.

  • Assist with behavioral and special needs issues, providing a safe and inclusive space for all students.
  • Deliver SEN interventions and support students with complex needs.
  • Provide feedback to students on their progress, promoting self-awareness and self-improvement.
  • Take charge of small groups of students for defined activities, fostering a sense of community and teamwork.
  • Assume responsibility for a whole class in the absence of a teacher, ensuring continuity and consistency.
  • Work with challenging students outside the classroom, utilizing respite strategies to promote positive behavior.
  • Supervise students during breaks and lunchtimes, maintaining a safe and respectful environment.
  • Liaise with parents on student progress, keeping them informed and involved.
  • Ensure learner files and records are up-to-date, maintaining accurate and comprehensive documentation.

Essential Qualifications:

  • At least a Level 2 Qualification in English and Maths.
  • Knowledge of statutory requirements for health and safety, SEN, and safeguarding of children.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with students and teachers.
  • Experience working with challenging students, understanding their needs, and demonstrating effective behavior management strategies.
  • Experience in planning and delivering teaching activities, including those defined in Individual Education Plans.
  • Experience working with students with Education Health Care Plans and Special Education Needs, language difficulties, or other complex needs.
  • Determination to raise the levels of achievement of children.
  • Ability to cope with emotionally demanding situations.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience as a Teaching Assistant in an alternative provision environment.
  • Understanding of curriculum, particularly literacy and numeracy requirements.
  • Evidence of successful work with disaffected and emotionally vulnerable students.
