Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Sous Chef to join our team at The Carpenter Arms, a popular neighborhood pub in Cambridge. As a key member of our kitchen team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our food production, maintaining high standards of quality and hygiene, and leading a team of chefs to deliver exceptional results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Head Chef to effectively control stock and food GP, and identify opportunities to maximize profitability.
  • Responsible for all food production, ensuring that food is prepared to an exemplary standard.
  • Overall accountability for hygiene and health and safety within the kitchen.
  • Ensure that all team members are fully trained and aware of how food is stored, rotated, and disposed of, and monitor their adherence.
  • Manage food and labor costs effectively to achieve a strong food margin and labor within budget.
  • Responsible for the recruitment, training, coaching, and development of the kitchen team to ensure the delivery of excellent food quality and guest satisfaction.
  • Train and coach the front-of-house team to ensure they have a good knowledge of all menu items to provide exceptional guest service.
  • Ensure that company policies and procedures are followed, including daily and weekly stock checks, and processing of invoices.

Requirements

  • Minimum 18 months as Sous Chef with a background in a busy food operation and a passion for food quality.
  • Ability to deliver to excellent standards in a fast-paced and pressurized environment.
  • Leadership qualities, including motivating the team through regular and engaging team meetings and briefs.
