Care Assistant for a Teenage Girl

Job Summary

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Care Assistant to provide support and care to our 16-year-old daughter, Ella-Rose, who has Dravet Syndrome. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting Ella-Rose with daily activities, accessing the wider community, and participating in social clubs and activities that are suitable for her.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide care and support to Ella-Rose, including assistance with daily living tasks, mobility, and communication
  • Accompany Ella-Rose to social clubs, activities, and outings, ensuring her safety and well-being at all times
  • Monitor and respond to Ella-Rose's seizures, administering buccal midazolam as necessary, and following the medical emergency plan
  • Communicate effectively with Ella-Rose, using clear and simple language, and adapting to her changing needs and understanding
  • Ensure Ella-Rose's boundaries are respected and maintained, particularly in public settings

Requirements

  • Full DBS check
  • First aid training, specifically in seizure management and administering buccal midazolam
  • Valid UK driving license and access to a car with sufficient boot space for a wheelchair
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Working Hours

5 hours per week, term time, with flexibility to work weekends. 10 hours per week during school holidays, spread across the week or weekend as required.
