Job Overview

You will become part of a vibrant and innovative group, including Clinical Pharmacists and administrative support staff. Our Lead Clinical Pharmacist, who brings over three decades of experience in both private and community pharmacy settings, will provide you with the mentorship and guidance necessary for your professional development.

Key Responsibilities

- Cultivate and sustain effective working relationships with healthcare professionals across Southern Derbyshire.

- Build rapport with patients encountered during your practice.

- Oversee specific areas of GP clinical pharmacy, managing systems and processes to ensure effective service delivery.

- Maintain your pharmacist registration and adhere to professional standards while managing your own caseload.

- Ensure personal indemnity insurance is current, including vicarious liability coverage.

- Organize and plan your workload in collaboration with the practice.

- Adhere to all organizational and legal requirements, including health and safety, equality, confidentiality, and clinical governance.

- Perform additional duties as agreed upon with the GP practice, commensurate with your experience and role.

Job Duties

- Deliver expert clinical pharmacy support to the practice.

- As an independent prescriber, operate within your professional boundaries while collaborating with a team of pharmacists in a general practice setting. You will receive support from a clinical pharmacist manager dedicated to your development.

- Engage in a patient-facing role as part of a multidisciplinary team, taking charge of chronic disease management and conducting clinical medication reviews to effectively manage patients with complex medication regimens.

- Provide primary assistance to general practice staff regarding prescription and medication inquiries, support the repeat prescription system, handle acute prescription requests, and ensure safe prescribing practices.

- Lead initiatives on medication optimization and quality improvement, managing aspects of the quality and outcomes framework.

- Facilitate integration between the practice and community/hospital pharmacy to enhance patient outcomes and streamline workload. Your role is essential in improving care quality and operational efficiency, requiring a commitment to delivering exceptional service.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to convey complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Experience in managing and reviewing medication optimization for long-term conditions.
  • Proficient IT skills.
  • Capable of analyzing complex technical information.
  • Effective problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Experience in producing informative reports.
  • Ability to influence and motivate others to adhere to recommendations.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Desirable

  • Minimum of two years post-qualification experience.
  • In-depth therapeutic knowledge and understanding of evidence-based healthcare principles.
  • Familiarity with the dynamics of general practices and primary care prescribing.

Required Qualifications

Essential

  • Master’s degree in Pharmacy (MPharm) or equivalent.
  • Independent prescriber qualification.
  • Current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council.

Desirable

  • Specialist knowledge from postgraduate training or equivalent experience.
  • Membership in the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
  • Progress towards Faculty membership of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.

Additional Requirements

Essential

  • Self-motivated and adaptable.
  • Current CRB check.
  • Level three safeguarding training for adults and children.
  • Up-to-date immunization status.

Desirable

  • Valid driving license.
  • Completion of the Information Governance toolkit.
  • Basic life support training.
