About Us
At Mencap, we are dedicated to our Employ Me initiatives, designed to assist individuals with learning disabilities and/or Autism in acquiring the skills, knowledge, and experience necessary for securing paid employment.
Position Summary
We are excited to announce a new project and are in search of committed and empathetic individuals from diverse backgrounds, particularly those with lived experiences related to the criminal justice system, to join our team as Relief Employment Mentors.
As a Relief Employment Mentor, you will receive training through the British Association for Supported Employment.
Your Role
In this position, you will provide personalized support to individuals with learning disabilities, learning difficulties, or autism, helping them develop the skills and knowledge required to thrive in a new job. Your unique insights and personal journey will be invaluable in offering support, mentorship, and advocacy for those at risk of offending.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with external employers to create employment opportunities.
- Work as part of the broader Employ Me team.
- Support and train participants to ensure they acquire practical and competitive skills.
- Engage with managers and mentors to assist participants in overcoming challenges.
- Provide travel training to and from the workplace when necessary.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- Experience in supporting individuals with patience and encouragement.
- Proficient in maintaining accurate records and reporting.
- Adaptable to various working environments.
- Exhibit professional conduct and attendance.
- Genuine interest in learning disabilities and autism.

Work Arrangement
This position operates on a relief bank basis, meaning work is available as needed. While there may be opportunities for longer-term engagements, the majority of the work will be short, ad hoc support.
