Role/Department:

We are seeking an experienced legal professional to join our team as a Senior Legal Counsel and Senior Vice President. This role will support our asset servicing operations, particularly in the UK and Middle East regions. You will report to the Assistant General Counsel overseeing the UK asset servicing legal team and collaborate with a group of six dedicated lawyers in London. Our legal department comprises over 85 attorneys worldwide, with a significant presence in EMEA.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive legal support to Northern Trust's asset servicing business units, focusing on global custody, fund services, and wealth management.
  • Core responsibilities include:
    • Advising senior management and business partners across various product lines.
    • Reviewing and advising on RFP responses; drafting and negotiating key agreements such as Master Custody, Account Control, and Fund Administration.
    • Collaborating with colleagues in the legal department globally to ensure consistent policy application.
    • Updating and maintaining standard agreements in compliance with bank policies.
    • Supporting strategic initiatives and participating in Product and Service Risk Reviews.
    • Engaging with Compliance and Risk Management to analyze new laws and regulations affecting the business.
Skills/Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess:
  • A strong legal background, preferably within a reputable financial services firm or a large UK financial institution, seeking to advance their career.
  • Experience in global custody, fund administration, or wealth management.
  • Knowledge of the Middle East market, particularly Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi Global Market, is advantageous but not mandatory.

  • Proficient contract drafting and negotiation skills, particularly with large financial institutions.
  • A proactive, flexible self-starter who can work independently and manage priorities effectively.
