Position Overview
We are looking for a seasoned specialist in Computational Protein Design to enhance our Antigen Design team. The successful candidate will possess extensive experience in employing deep learning techniques, including generative AI, to craft novel protein structures. This role demands proficiency in developing computational workflows for the design, analysis, and validation of protein structures, alongside a robust understanding of protein biochemistry to facilitate effective collaboration with laboratory scientists and immunologists.
Key Responsibilities
Scientific Goals
- Lead the creation of computational workflows utilizing AI methodologies to engineer proteins intended for vaccine applications.
- Work closely with laboratory teams to validate and assess new methodologies through in silico, in vitro, and in vivo evaluations.
- Employ computational techniques and structural expertise to design proteins that present target epitopes in specific conformations.
- Collaborate across diverse teams, including immunologists, evolutionary biologists, molecular biologists, and ML engineers, to ensure that novel designs are optimized for eliciting cross-protective immune responses.
- Analyze and interpret experimental findings to refine the design process.
Strategic Goals
- Stay informed on the latest research and advancements in the field.
- Evaluate developments in protein engineering and establish strategic directions for the team.
- Mentor junior scientists and foster a collaborative team environment while becoming a recognized expert in your area of expertise.
- Contribute to scientific publications and represent Baseimmune at academic conferences.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
- Ph.D. in Structural Biology, Biophysics, Computational Biology, Biochemistry, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in computational protein design within an academic or industry context.
- 1-2 years of experience in a post-doctoral or industry role.
- A proven history of successfully designing novel proteins using advanced computational methods for biologics.
- In-depth knowledge of statistical and deep learning techniques applied to protein design, including RFdiffusion, MPNN, AlphaFold, and Rosetta.
- Proficient in programming with Python and utilizing Linux command line.
- Strong analytical skills, problem-solving capabilities, and strategic thinking.
- A demonstrated record of scientific innovation and publications in respected journals.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
