About the Role

The Principal Technical Officer will be responsible for providing technical support to the Maintenance Engineering team at Network Rail. This role will involve working closely with the Works Delivery Track team to deliver projects across Scotland Route.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out technical tasks, surveys, and design work to ensure safe and efficient project delivery.
  • Manage and check the quality of work delivered to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Prepare work and resource specifications, method statements, and plans to support project delivery.
  • Manage information to update systems, databases, and records to ensure accurate tracking of project progress.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to team members to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver projects.
  • Manage and supervise the delivery and output of On Track Machine operations to ensure efficient project delivery.
  • Undertake technical inspections, tests, investigations, and analysis of technical data to ensure project quality and safety.
  • Update and provide information to accurately update systems, databases, and records as required.
  • Prioritize work arising and agree work plans for the group to ensure efficient project delivery.
  • Prepare specifications and requisition for materials to support project delivery.
  • Manage processes and systems for the calibration and certification of tools and equipment to ensure they are safe and effective.
  • Contribute to your own development and that of others to ensure a skilled and knowledgeable team.

Requirements

  • Knowledge and experience of technical support activities and techniques.
  • Knowledge and experience of permanent way maintenance and construction management processes, systems, and standards.
  • Knowledge and experience of design requirements, processes, and techniques.
  • Able to demonstrate, promote, and embed safe working behaviors within the team.
  • Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Able to coach, influence, and develop others.
  • Hold and retain the competencies relevant to this post and required by business need.
  • Able and willing to drive vehicles as required by business need.

Please be aware that this role will involve working unsociable hours, including weekends, nights, and bank holidays, and may require working on-call.
