About Us

Founded in 1987 by a dedicated group of Foster Parents, we proudly hold the title of the UK's first independent Foster Care agency. With over 30 years of fostering expertise, we continue to thrive.

Our founders recognized the unique needs of looked-after children, particularly those with challenging beginnings, and prioritized specialized support. From the outset, our approach has centered on the child, providing a comprehensive range of support services. This is encapsulated in our mission: Integrated Service Programme.

Over the years, our support network has expanded to include a diverse team of professionals—social workers, fostering advisors, educators, and therapists—who collaborate with foster parents and the children in their care. This collaborative effort is what we refer to as a 'therapeutic approach' to fostering, a concept we were pioneers in.

What We Are Looking For

Just as our children require support, foster parents also need encouragement, practical advice, and sometimes a compassionate ear.

The Fostering Advisors within our teams play a crucial role in providing the necessary support to our foster parents. This vital position entails regular visits to foster parents, offering guidance and information about the various services and support available through ISP, including matching considerations, respite care, training, supervised contact, and transportation.

Role Responsibilities

  • Maintain regular phone communication with foster parents to discuss their progress and share insights and strategies.
  • Conduct home visits as agreed with the ISP Social Worker and Registered Manager.
  • Provide foster parents with relevant information and advice regarding the support and services accessible through ISP and the Fostering Network, particularly concerning procedures for allegations or complaints.
  • Coordinate training sessions for foster parents.
  • Actively engage in:
    • Contact arrangements and supervised interactions.
    • Respite and transportation logistics, including direct transport of children when necessary.
    • TSDS Training.
    • Crisis intervention.
    • Matching considerations.
  • Support children and young people in their extracurricular activities.
  • Facilitate discussion groups and presentations at the Centre, including participation in team meetings.
  • Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and up-to-date records as required.
  • Stay informed about applicable regulations and standards.
  • Undertake additional duties, tasks, or projects as requested by the Registered Manager.
  • Collaborate effectively as a team member and participate in ISP events, such as program meetings.

What You Will Need

  • Understanding of fostering regulations and standards, including the Children's Act & Fostering Service National Minimum Standards.
  • Some firsthand knowledge or experience in fostering, ideally as a foster parent or within a fostering family.
  • Previous experience or a desire to work within a therapeutic childcare model.
  • Experience in providing support to foster parents and young people.
  • Good understanding of attachment theory and working within a therapeutic framework.
  • Ability to recognize foster parents as professionals and to challenge appropriately when necessary, in a manner that is effective and sustains the relationship.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with professionals from various disciplines.
  • Intermediate IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and experience with spreadsheets and databases.
  • Experience in planning, organizing, and prioritizing workloads to meet deadlines and service requirements.
  • Commitment to fostering positive working relationships with staff, external agencies, children and young people, and foster parents.
  • A full driving license, unrestricted access to your own vehicle, and confidence in driving across the region.

The successful candidate will be required to complete an enhanced DBS Check, the cost of which will be covered by ISP.

ISP is an equal opportunities employer and actively encourages applications from suitably qualified and eligible candidates.

ISP is dedicated to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults, and expects all staff to share this commitment.
