Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Fostering Advisor to join our team. As a Fostering Advisor, you will play a critical role in supporting foster parents and children, providing guidance and resources to help them navigate the fostering process.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Support Foster Parents

Provide regular phone contact and home visits to foster parents, offering advice and information on support and services available to them.

Coordinate Training

Organize and deliver training sessions for foster parents, ensuring they have the skills and knowledge needed to provide high-quality care.

Facilitate Contact Arrangements

Work with foster parents, children, and social workers to arrange and facilitate contact between children and their birth families.

Respite and Transport

Coordinate respite care and transportation for children, ensuring their needs are met and they receive the support they require.

Crisis Intervention

Provide crisis intervention support to foster parents and children, helping them navigate difficult situations and providing guidance on how to manage challenging behaviors.

Matching Considerations

Work with social workers and foster parents to identify suitable matches for children, ensuring they are placed in a foster home that meets their unique needs.

Record Keeping

Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of foster parent support, training, and contact arrangements.

Team Collaboration

Work closely with other ISP staff, including social workers, therapists, and foster parents, to ensure a cohesive and supportive team environment.

Requirements

  1. Fostering Regulations

Have a thorough understanding of fostering regulations and standards, including the Children's Act and Fostering Service National Minimum Standards.

First-Hand Knowledge

Have some first-hand knowledge or experience of fostering, ideally as a foster parent or as part of a fostering family.

Therapeutic Model

Have experience working in a therapeutic model of child care, with a focus on attachment and relationship-building.

Support Skills

Be able to provide emotional support and guidance to foster parents and children, helping them navigate challenging situations.

Communication Skills

Have excellent communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with foster parents, children, and other professionals.

IT Skills

Have intermediate IT skills, including Microsoft Office and experience using spreadsheets and databases.

Driving License

Hold a full driving license and have access to a reliable vehicle.
