Yard and Service Operations Manager

About the Role

CHEP is a global leader in the supply chain and logistics industry, with a presence in over 55 countries and a team of 11,000 employees. As a Yard and Service Manager, you will play a critical role in ensuring the efficient operation of our plant, managing labor, materials, and equipment resources to meet customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safety and Security: Ensure a safe working environment for employees, contractors, and visitors, and manage site security systems and personnel.
  • Stock Management: Optimize stock levels, manage inventory, and ensure accurate data input and timely processing of stock movements.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Manage reporting of plant performance, labor costs, and budgeting for non-maintenance purchasing requirements.
  • Process Improvement: Contribute to process improvement initiatives within the yard and service department, driving efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Customer Service: Ensure issues are managed efficiently and effectively, and provide excellent communication channels with employees, customers, and retailers.
  • Procedural Compliance: Ensure adherence to ISO 9001 standards, support audits, and maintain accurate records.
  • Waste Management: Manage waste disposal and rebate costs, aiming for a sustainability target of Zero to Landfill.
  • Subcontractor Management: Organize and control contractors in the yard and service areas as needed.
  • Best Practices: Promote lean, 5S, and teamwork principles through communication and example, and reapply network best practices.
Requirements
  • 2-3 years supervisory experience in high-volume manufacturing operations environment.
  • English and Maths qualifications.
  • Proven skills and capabilities in leadership, communication, people management, and problem-solving.
  • IOSH Qualification.
  • FLT license desirable.
  • Six-Sigma Green/Black Belt certification desirable.
  • Experience of leading and achieving results in an extremely target-driven high-volume manufacturing/transport environment.
  • Experience of Lean manufacturing and process control (six-sigma) techniques.
  • PC literate, particularly strong Excel and SAP skills.
