Job Description

CHEP is a leading provider of supply chain solutions, and we're seeking a highly skilled Yard and Service Manager to join our team. As a key member of our plant leadership team, you'll play a critical role in optimizing yard and service labor, material, and equipment resources.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety: Ensure a safe working environment by identifying and mitigating potential hazards, providing training and instructions to employees, and leading incident investigations.
  • Security: Manage site security, including perimeter checks and CCTV monitoring.
  • Stock Management: Ensure efficient stock management, including inventory control, stock reconciliations, and investigations into stock variances.
  • Reporting: Manage reporting of stock and flow movements, attendance of weekly stocks and flows calls, and provision of information for PQCDSM Scorecard and Monthly POLT and Reports.
  • Labour Costs: Optimize labor costs by ensuring efficient use of labor pool, minimizing overtime, and optimizing attendance.
  • Process Improvement: Contribute to process improvement initiatives within the yard and service department.
  • Turnaround Performances: Monitor and improve site turnaround performance of hauliers to network and plant targets.
  • Suppliers: Work closely with FLT and Waste equipment suppliers to ensure maximum machinery capability and minimize downtime.
  • Staff Management: Manage industrial relations issues, including performance management, absence management, grievances, and appeals.
  • Communication: Enable and deliver excellent communication channels with all employees on the team.
  • Training: Ensure all shift members have the skills required to carry out their role, including SAP training, and development plans generated for each individual.
  • Customer Service: Ensure issues are managed efficiently and effectively with customers, retailers, and hauliers.
  • Procedural Compliance: Ensure service office and yard procedures are followed and carried out in the correct manner.
  • Purchasing: Manage plant purchasing control of direct spend and indirect spend, including supporting procedural compliance to preferred supplier lists.
  • Stock Quality Audits: Conduct raw material quality control audits on inbound deliveries and audits for contamination on yard hire stock.
  • Waste Management: Manage completion of the legislative waste register for waste inbound and waste outbound, and achieve improvement in disposal and rebate costs.
  • Subcontractor Management: Organize and control contractors in yard and service where necessary.
  • Best Practice: Promote the ethics and principles of lean, 5S, and teamwork through communication and setting an example.
  • Plant Leadership Team (PLT): Attend and contribute to meetings and plant reporting.
  • Site Reception: Manage goods receipt of deliveries and first point of contractors/visitors management.
  • Achievement of ZERO HARM objectives: Ensure a safe working environment and achieve zero harm objectives.
  • Achievement of SERVICE DELIVERY, including delivery of plant SERVICE TURNAROUND targets: Ensure efficient service delivery and achieve service turnaround targets.
  • Delivery of plant CUSTOMER SATISFACTION and PRODUCT QUALITY (Yard impact) Metrics: Ensure high customer satisfaction and product quality metrics.
  • Employee Attrition/Absence/Fulfilment: Manage employee attrition, absence, and fulfillment.
  • Employee Engagement measured through BES Results: Ensure high employee engagement through BES results.
  • Achievement of Sustainability and Zero to landfill targets: Achieve sustainability and zero to landfill targets.

Requirements:

  • 2-3 years supervisory experience in high volume manufacturing operations environment
  • English & Maths qualifications
  • Proven skills and capabilities in leadership, communication, people management, and problem solving.
  • IOSH Qualification.
  • FLT licence desirable.
  • Six-Sigma Green/Black Belt certification desirable.
  • Experience of leading and achieving results in an extremely target driven high volume manufacturing/transport environment
  • Experience of Lean manufacturing and process control (six-sigma) techniques.
  • PC Literate - particularly strong Excel and SAP skills.

Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree

Preferred Level of Work Experience: 3-5 years
