Position Overview

SENIOR CONSULTANT IN OBSTETRICS

We are currently seeking applications for the position of Senior Consultant in Obstetrics within the Gynaecology and Maternity Departments at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This is a permanent consultant role aimed at attracting a skilled and dedicated physician who thrives in both secondary and tertiary healthcare environments and is passionate about enhancing patient care.

The successful candidate will become part of a collaborative team comprising NHS Gynaecologists, Gynae-oncologists, and Clinical Academics from the University of Oxford. Together, they deliver comprehensive gynaecological services to the local community while also providing specialized tertiary care in areas such as Gynae-oncology, urogynaecology, reproductive medicine, and endometriosis. This role encompasses responsibilities across multiple hospital sites.

Additionally, the candidate will engage with the maternity service, which offers general obstetric care to a significant number of women annually. The department also provides specialized services in fetal and maternal medicine, supported by a Level 3 neonatal unit.

The postholder will be responsible for conducting general gynaecology sessions, participating in on-call duties, and collaborating with the maternity team on a weekly basis, including a C-section list and antenatal clinics.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust operates gynaecology services across three locations. The successful applicant may be required to work at all sites. Responsibilities include managing general gynaecology clinics and outpatient hysteroscopy. The postholder will also be expected to stay current with emergency gynaecology practices, contribute to the 'hot week' service, and provide guidance to the Early Pregnancy team during on-call shifts.

The candidate will perform surgical procedures primarily using minimal access techniques at the designated hospitals, including regular weekend lists and day cases. Inpatient management and gynaecology on-call duties will be part of the role, with a frequency of no more than 1:9, compensated with a Band A supplement.

The candidate is expected to participate in a full-day C-section list weekly with the maternity team and conduct antenatal clinics.
