Colchester, Essex, United Kingdom Essex County Council Full time

Senior Care Support Specialist

Permanent, Full Time

Salary: £34,024.10 to £38,898.20 per annum (includes allowance)

Location: Colchester

Are you passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of children and adolescents? If so, this opportunity may be ideal for you.

Essex County Council is currently enhancing its residential services, and we are excited to welcome new talent to our team. You will be part of a newly refurbished short-term residence designed for five young individuals aged 12-16, working collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team to foster their development and resilience.

The role of a Senior Care Support Specialist is pivotal. Your primary responsibility will be to provide compassionate and therapeutic care to children who have faced adversity, nurturing them in a manner akin to parental support. Each day presents unique challenges and rewards.

As a Senior Care Support Specialist, you will hold a leadership position within the management team, overseeing the daily operations of the residence and ensuring a nurturing, safe, and secure environment. Your schedule will involve 37 hours per week, including a mix of early (7am - 2.30pm) and late shifts (2pm - 9.30pm), with every other weekend off. You will also supervise a team of staff, offering guidance and regular oversight to help them support the children and achieve their developmental goals.

Flexibility and an open-minded approach are essential, as is the ability to handle challenges with patience and composure. You will need to demonstrate a willingness to understand and manage difficult behaviors, including aggression, using various de-escalation strategies. Strong written and verbal communication skills are also necessary.

Prior experience in a children's residential setting or relevant management experience is required. If you do not possess a Level 3 Diploma, you will be expected to complete this qualification within two years of commencing employment. We will provide comprehensive training and regular supervision to equip you for success in this role.

If selected for an interview, you will first engage in a discussion to explore your application details and address any questions you may have. This initial meeting can be conducted virtually or in person. Successful candidates will then be invited for a second interview at the residence, where you will meet team members and respond to a written question along with additional interview queries.

Please note that applicants must be at least 21 years of age to be considered for this position.
