Senior Care Support Specialist
Permanent, Full Time
Salary: £34,024.10 to £38,898.20 per annum (includes allowance)
Location: Colchester
Are you passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of children and adolescents? If so, this opportunity may be ideal for you.
Essex County Council is currently enhancing its residential services, and we are excited to announce the opening of a newly refurbished short-term home designed for five young individuals aged 12-16. As part of a collaborative team, you will play a crucial role in helping these young people develop the necessary skills and resilience to reintegrate into their families or transition to longer-term care.
The role of a Senior Care Support Specialist demands a unique individual. Your primary responsibility will be to provide compassionate, therapeutic care to children who have faced trauma, nurturing them in a manner akin to parental support. Each day will present distinct challenges and rewarding experiences.
In this position, you will be an integral part of the management team, overseeing the daily operations of the home and fostering a nurturing, safe, and secure environment. You will work 37 hours a week, with a schedule that includes early (7am - 2.30pm) and late shifts (2pm - 9.30pm), along with every other weekend off. Your leadership will guide a team of staff, offering direction and regular supervision to help them support children and young people in achieving their goals and reaching their full potential.
Flexibility and an open-minded approach are essential, as you will need to navigate challenges with patience and composure. You should possess the ability and willingness to manage challenging behaviors, including aggression, using various de-escalation techniques. Effective written and verbal communication skills are also necessary.
Prior experience in a children's residential setting or relevant management experience is required. If you do not already hold a Level 3 Diploma, you will be expected to complete this within two years of commencing employment. We are committed to providing comprehensive training and regular supervision to ensure you are well-prepared for your role. This, combined with the right mindset and a thorough in-house induction, will empower you to embark on your career with Essex County Council with confidence.
If selected for an interview, you will first participate in an initial discussion to delve into the details of your application and address any questions you may have regarding the role. This interview may be conducted virtually or in person. Successful candidates will then be invited for a second interview at the home, where you will meet some of the team, respond to a written question, and answer additional interview questions.
Please note that due to the nature of this position, applicants must be at least 21 years of age.
