Position Overview

The role of the Colorectal Cancer Clinical Nurse Expert is pivotal in providing comprehensive care to patients facing health challenges related to lower gastrointestinal cancers. This position focuses on enhancing patient health and wellbeing through specialized knowledge and compassionate support. The Clinical Nurse Expert (CNE) plays a crucial role in delivering both physical and emotional assistance, coordinating care services, and offering guidance on clinical and practical matters associated with cancer diagnoses. This holistic approach aims to foster improved outcomes for patients.

The Colorectal Cancer CNE Team operates within the Cancer and Planned Services at the main hospital site. As an integral part of the core service, the CNE collaborates with the cancer support team to deliver exceptional care primarily within colorectal and oncology services. This involves working closely with medical professionals to diagnose conditions, inform patients of their health status, and provide ongoing support throughout their cancer journey.

The practitioner is expected to work both collaboratively and independently to address the needs of patients and their families. Additionally, they will contribute to the education and development of fellow staff members and assist in the advancement of clinical services and enhanced practices across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a vital member of the Multidisciplinary Team within the Cancer Service, collaborating with various healthcare providers in the community and regional network.
  • Offer expert guidance and management for patients with lower gastrointestinal cancers, promoting self-care and support for all individuals within the health authority.
  • Utilize clinical expertise, educational skills, and management capabilities to ensure a seamless service for patients, caregivers, and staff, providing support from diagnosis through curative, palliative, and end-of-life care.
  • Act as a supportive and inspirational clinical leader within integrated teams, maintaining high standards of professional expertise.
  • Engage actively in evidence-based practices to enhance patient care.
