Job Overview

The SACT Team is eager to welcome dedicated and passionate permanent band 6 nurses. This role presents an exciting opportunity for empathetic cancer care professionals who excel in dynamic settings, enjoy fast-paced environments, and are committed to collaborating with the existing team to shape future services. Candidates should possess leadership skills, be innovative thinkers, and demonstrate effective delegation abilities.

You will become part of a newly structured and evolving service that supports a six-day working week, providing primary assessments and assistance for patients undergoing oral SACT. This position offers the chance to develop skills as a UKONs telephone triage nurse, participating in a rota to triage patients via phone and guide them to appropriate care pathways. There are ample opportunities for ongoing education and involvement in the UKONs forum.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be a vital member of the Multidisciplinary Team within the Torbay and South Devon SACT service, collaborating with various healthcare providers in the local community and across the regional network.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing expert guidance and management for SACT patients.
  • Actively promoting self-care among all patients within the Torbay and South Devon Health Authority, including those in hospice care.
  • Utilizing clinical expertise, education, and management skills to ensure a seamless service for patients, caregivers, and staff, offering support and information from diagnosis through curative, palliative, and end-of-life care.
  • Serving as a supportive and inspiring team member within integrated teams, delivering a high standard of professional expertise.
  • Engaging in evidence-based practice.

  • Demonstrate advanced communication skills to provide appropriate support, relevant information, and education, facilitating informed decision-making regarding all treatment options for patients and their families/caregivers.
  • Promote and ensure effective communication within the multidisciplinary team, fostering close partnerships and productive working relationships with key individuals and groups. Liaise with GPs, hospital consultants, and other healthcare professionals regarding patient issues. Manage a patient caseload effectively, ensuring all skills and expertise are utilized.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications

  • Experience in cancer nursing.
  • Experience in SACT.
  • Education in a specialist area.
  • Current NMC registration.
  • Advanced communication skills.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience in a clinical environment.
  • Level 2 psychological training skills.
  • NMP qualification.
  • Experience with VAD and management.
  • Ability to work autonomously and independently.
