Position Overview

As the Director of Capital Markets Strategy, you will spearhead the leadership of AFME's policy formulation for the EU and UK across various Capital Markets sectors, including:

  • Fixed Income: Securitisation, High Yield, and Trading
  • Equities: Primary (ECM) and Secondary, Post-Trade
  • MiFID-related Topics: Wholesale Investor Protection and Research
  • Commodities

Your extensive expertise will enable you to proactively influence our initiatives, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous enhancement within the Capital Markets Division.

Key Responsibilities

You will hold ultimate accountability for a team of approximately 20 individuals, including six direct reports. Your role will involve:

  • Identifying critical inquiries in complex scenarios and providing clear direction.
  • Resolving conflicts by uniting all stakeholders to reach mutually beneficial solutions.
  • Building and maintaining strategic partnerships across various internal functions.

Collaboration will be essential, particularly with:

  • AFME Communications and Advocacy Teams: Enhancing AFME's presence in the media and with relevant trade associations.
  • AFME Events Team: Overseeing policy content for capital markets events and sourcing key speakers.
  • AFME Membership Team: Supporting initiatives to grow membership and identify potential new members.
  • GFMA Colleagues: Assisting with global capital markets matters.

As a member of AFME's Senior Management Team, you will contribute to strategic development and implementation, setting an example for others and promoting the organization's vision and mission.

Required Skills and Expertise

Essential:

  • In-depth knowledge of EU, UK, and international regulatory frameworks.
  • Significant experience in capital markets, whether from a business or regulatory perspective.
  • High financial literacy and a strong commercial acumen.
  • Adept at navigating complex technical issues and fostering consensus among diverse member firms.
  • Ability to synthesize extensive information and pinpoint key issues.
  • Proven track record in engaging with senior stakeholders across Europe and beyond.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and interpersonal skills.
  • Professional credibility and maturity.
  • Experience in leading and mentoring high-performing, multicultural teams.
  • Willingness to expand knowledge and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Strong public speaking and writing capabilities.

Desirable:

  • Experience with trade associations in the EU and/or UK.
  • Background in working with governmental or regulatory bodies.
  • Advanced education and relevant professional qualifications.
  • Fluency in additional European languages.
